Steam fine here (EU). Can I get some on AC3 please. Always liked the pirate style games like sid meiers pirates for example. Is it similar in that sense to raiding towns, ships brawls or are these a more of a side/filler to the game with a mostly scripted linear story. I don't mind a scripted story but a semi sandbox where I can go raiding and brawling which isn't just a gimmicky thing tacked that doesn't actually yield anything, would be awesome.

Just a heads-up, Whispering Willows is a monkey's-paw of a game. Everything (the art style, the story, the soundwork) is brilliant and - from a first-time developer, no less - is absolutely stellar. Then you have to move around. Elaina can run - when you're outside. Except there's nothing to do outside except run to the next building, and the choice to have metroidvania-style backtracking in a game that makes you walk, verrrrry slowly, is just killer. I want to like it, everything about it is extremely my jam, but the frustratingly slow pace just feels like completely artificial and aggravating padding. I'd rather the game be short (because you can actually traverse the drat world) than un-fun. DO NOT BUY

RBA Starblade posted:Fable Anniversary isn't worth picking up at any price over the original, right? Honestly, I'd say it is. The graphics are sharper, and the game looks much better. The faces especially have been revamped to look better, with that eerie fishface of original Fable completely removed. Even on PC it's a significant upgrade in graphical quality that is rather noticeable when you compare them side by side. It's got native controller support which is something of a big deal. Fable PC doesn't work with controllers, and even programs like joy2key don't really mesh well with how Fable is set up/the quickspell system. It's also an older game that apparently was supposed to have controller support at some point, which bugs out joy2key every now and then, which leads to unfortunate situations where your controller will just suddenly stop working midfight. With Anniversary, it's just plug and play. The modding scene fixed up a number of core issues inherent to the title as well, including a scar removal potion, slightly less insane requirements for the religious stuff, and more boast options for some of the later game quests. The best part about it though is the Hardcore Mode which is exclusive to the PC version. Basically all the AI in game has been revamped to work together more, spells have been added to enemies which they'll actually use, harder enemies appear quicker, and the enemies in general have better stats/scale alongside you. On the economic side of things, gold gain has been reduced heavily, potions are now extremely rare/barely respawn, and heal over time for much less. They've also weakened Physical Shield, making it last for a very short time and eat up quite a bit of mana, and removed Resurrection Phials entirely, taking away the options to break the game. Whats great about this mode is it completely fixes many of the core issues Fable had, suddenly you need to be buying weapons/armor in towns, because you can't go through half the game with the starting shirt/sword. Suddenly you need to be hiring those bodyguards/mercenaries in the various towns, because you need the extra swordarm when getting from place to place. And the combat becomes much more fluid when you actually need to plan out spells/spellcasts, as well as dodging and avoidance. It's probably not worth $15 in the middle of the big sale, but it's the definitive version of Fable now, and when it goes down to $10ish you should probably pick it up.

It's only ever your ship barring a couple scripted things, but you can take on huge enemy fleets if you want. You can go into towns and many of the islands around the map and fight sailors, soliders and various bad guys. Once you're about two hours into the story it's all open to you to do whenever you want. Also it's AC4, careful that you don't buy 3.

Tai posted:Steam fine here (EU). I've loved and played every Assassin's Creed Game up to Black Flag, which is one of my favorite open world games. AC3 is one of the most disappointing games I've ever played. I don't think I had fun playing it once. The sense of adventure and fun just got lost somewhere. (Maybe too much of the game took place on the ground? I dunno.) Black Flag is the game that AC3 wishes it could have been, the only reason to get AC3 is if you want a sub-par game with a Native American protagonist.

I don't suppose anyone picked up an extra copy of either Neverending Nightmares or MGS: Ground Zeroes while they were on sale? My piece of poo poo laptop crapped the bed while I was trying to connect to steam to buy them and I just barely missed the sales. I'd be happy to pay the sale price plus a little extra for either of them via paypal. Edit: apparently more people had trouble with steam than just me, good to know I guess.

CJacobs posted:I gave it my blessing a couple posts ago because I really did like it, but I will agree that these complaints aren't unfounded. The cars, especially the main character's default Dodge Challenger, handle very... uh, varied...ly. I think the lesson is much like GTA IV with some of the cars - if you just throw the pedal to the metal every time, they handle like crap, but if you have a lighter touch, they're a lot less likely to fishtail or spin on you. Granted, that's cold comfort for people using keyboard controls, but my suggestion would be to have a controller with analog triggers like the 360, it was really designed for it.

Assassin's Creed 3 is a bad game. Don't buy it. The more interesting character is literally the tutorial. The main Assassin is terribly dull and just awful. Going back to Assassin's Creed 2, Ezio was a fully-fledged character. I couldn't tell you much about the dude in Assassin's Creed 3 other than he's as dull as a board, and possibly doesn't get much better as I couldn't be bothered to finish the game. The free-running mechanics are wonky and disjointed and don't always work like you want them to (another step back from AC2) and the opportunities to do them are pretty limited since it's set in America during the Revolutionary period, and the location isn't really known for its tall structures that aren't trees. Skip it and get 4

The main EU4 DLC is pretty good. Art of War is amazing but it isn't on sale because it is too new. The cosmetic / song etc.. dlc is purely optional.

Yeah you guys are right. I just sorted it out and the DLC missing from the Europa 4 Collection is: Art of War Guns, Drums and Steel Music Pack Evangelical Union Unit Pack Catholic League Unit Pack Songs of Yuletide Songs of War Music Pack Ebooks (Art of War + Wealth of Nations + Anthology of Alternate History) I listen to my own music so the only loss is Art of War and some Unit Packs. Looks like a good deal until those go on sale.

Prison architect is alpha, but it has had a ton of regular updates, and keeps getting better and more feature rich. This price is ridiculously good for how much game there is. This and also on sale 7 days to die are alpha games done right,

In defense of Assassin's Creed III; I actually liked the naval battles in that more than the ones in Assassin's Creed IV, mainly in that the ship GUIs were far less intrusive, and also because chain shot was genuinely exciting to use (if broken in design). Honestly it's the worst of the series, but it's not horrendous; it just features a rather unlikeable protagonist (the term "Noble Savage" comes to mind) and some of the side activities that don't involve boats are certainly tiresome (the homestead / trading game is poo poo, but those sorts of minigames are poo poo in every iteration, including IV's godawful fleet management game), but it's not like a complete collapse of the formula. Running across rooftops, leaping into haystacks, charging at people and facestabs are all still there, so if you want to be a completist, I didn't think it as a chore to play - just disappointing. It also bears mentioning that III is really nonoptimized and requires a strong PC to play, too, but IV isn't worlds better in that regard. Prison Architect is one of those true Sim games in the style of Sim City or Theme Park or whatever where things can truly, truly go horrifically wrong in a very short space of time if you're not on the ball. It's still an alpha, so there's plenty of bugs, but it just so happens that most of the time the bugs are actually hilarious, like prisoners rioting while sleeping or other weirdness.

Xeras posted:I had trouble getting into Metro 2033 due to controls and only made it 2 hours in. Is redux worth picking up? What issues does it address exactly like controls, graphics, etc.? It's a port to the LL engine, and consequently has tightened up controls/gunplay/stealth (and is a bit prettier and much better optimised).

The Cheapshit Guide to Decent Games My favorite part of these sales is combing through the games that are discounted to less than the price of a pack of gum. Some really solid gems get buried in the pile. These should all remain at this price throughout the Winter sale, I can't see them being discounted any less. $1 or less Retro-Grade - $0.99 A rhythm shooter with a cool twist, you're playing it in reverse. I'm terrible at it but it looks pretty and is really fun to chill out to the awesome music on Casual. The Binding of Isaac (original version) - $0.49 There's a new one with a better engine that's not Flash, but the original is still compusilvely replayable, if you somehow haven't checked it out yet. Ghost Master - $0.74 A sort of Sims style top down game where you rig up various locations with hauntings to scare the people wandering around. It's pretty easy and doesn't have a lot of depth, but it's fun for at least a couple hours. Zeno Clash - $0.99 An older but very unique first person punch-and-shoot-'em up that still has some of the best first person hand to hand combat I've seen in a video game. Recently updated to add ~TRADING CARDS~! $2 or less Installments 1-3 of the Blackwell Adventure games, $1.49 each: The Blackwell Legacy Blackwell Unbound Blackwell Convergence These are great adventure games with an old school art style, but without the obnoxious old-school puzzle design. The story is really solid too, for $1.49 this is a great way to see if it'd be something you're interested in enough to get them all. The Shivah - $01.49 Another similarly styled adventure game, put out by the same designers of the Blackwell series. Bad Mojo: Redux - $1.49 Disclaimer, I've had this game for a long time but have never managed to finish it. It's difficult in an old fashioned adventure game way, but you play as a cockroach and get to watch some awesome 90s FMV. Shadowgrounds - $1.14 A goofy but fun action shooter. I like to think of it as a top-down Doom 3. Go ahead and skip Shadowgrounds: Survivor though.
