I dunno, the whole fantastic positioning thing never really impresses me. Just like Guillermo Ochoa's "amazing" WC2014 performance where a bunch of balls bounced directly off of his face and he had one good save, it's nothing amazing when a keeper is standing in the correct spot.

As an aside, I remember Akinfeev being one hell of a positional keeper during the 2008 Euro, and he showed a lot of promise. I mean, the dude was always just standing where the ball ended up going, and you could see it wasn't coincidental. Of course, the problem with him was that he never developed anything else beyond that and since positioning is sufficient only against lovely strikers (which in Russia is most anyone not in CSKA or Zenit), he's now a keeper with great sense and even greater wasted potential.

Yeah the thing about Ochoa's WC performance was that all his "great" saves were off corners or Robben breakaways where there's only one possible place a non-idiot GK would stand. Wooo hoo. The stuff like Iker getting back across goal to stop the shot after that dragged cross is at least impressive, even if the finish in that case was a bit generous.

It's nothing special compared to some of the wonders posted in this thread but I always liked De Geas save vs Mata: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4lrjYb-y68 It came at a crucial time both in the game (93rd minute, tied at 3-3) and in the season and you could almost tell on Matas face that he was ready to give up after taking close to the perfect free kick.
