I'm kind of torn. While that dude did actually manage to kill someone, this guy repeatedly failed to so despite his apparent best efforts. These included: trying to start a fire in the galley at 29,000 ft, and coming so close to putting two planes together that his commander pulled his aircrew qualification. He also cried his way out of getting booted from SERE.

LA Times posted:

North Korea says U.S. government 'deeply involved' in Sony film

North Korea’s defense department asserted Sunday that the U.S. government was “deeply involved” in the making of the Sony Pictures comedy “The Interview” and threatened to “blow up” the White House, the Pentagon and other U.S. targets if Washington launched an assault to retaliate for the cyberattack on the studio.

The FBI last week said North Korea was behind the hacking of the studio, which led to the release of corporate emails and leaks of full-length films, scripts and other sensitive material. The cyberattack prompted the company to cancel the theatrical release of “The Interview,” which centers on a plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

U.S. authorities said the hacking bore strong similarities to a North Korean attack on South Korean banks and other facilities in 2013.

In its statement Sunday, the North Korean National Defense Commission denied having launched cyberattacks on South Korea and again denied culpability for the Sony hacking, saying it was unaware of the hackers’ place of residence.

But the commission praised the Sony hackers’ “righteous deed,”
saying the film was an incitement to terrorism and adding that the studio got into “serious trouble and paid a due price.”

President Obama has said the U.S. would respond to the attack, but has not specified how. North Korea on Sunday warned against that, saying the country had already launched a “counteraction.”

“Nothing is more serious miscalculation than guessing that just a single movie production company is the target of this counteraction,” North Korea said. “Our target is all the citadels of the U.S. imperialists who earned the bitterest grudge of all Koreans.”

“The army and people of [North Korea] are fully ready to stand in confrontation with the U.S. in all war spaces, including cyberwarfare space, to blow up those citadels,” the statement added. "Our toughest counteraction will be boldly taken against the White House, the Pentagon and the whole U.S. mainland, the cesspool of terrorism, by far surpassing the 'symmetric counteraction' declared by Obama."

The bellicose statement from the government in Pyongyang came a day after the North proposed a “joint investigation” with the U.S. into the source of the cyberattack.

That's kind of a dumb example though, on account of North Korea being much closer to us technology wise at that time. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to suggest that we have reconnaissance overflights happening right now. Not sure what China would think of saber rattling right off their borders though.

I still think it might work if we stuck to the current events discussions and left most of the GiP bro/real talk stuff in the forums. It would be nice since we as a group have a pretty broad knowledge base and finding information outside of your wheelhouse is tough if you don't know where to look on the high side.

JWCS is probably has better tools to facilitate something like that but gently caress if I know at this point since I've been stationed at backwaters for the last few years without access. Also, I think that would severely limit the audience. You might be able to do it with some of the blogging stuff on SIPR intellink, but then it's publicly readable.

Eh just some thoughts. Maybe I'm being too optimistic.

You'd still have someone eventually get their panties in a wad over it. Which sucks cause this would awesome. Finding stuff even IN your wheelhouse can be a nightmare if you don't know the magical code to find X.

I get more of a boner from what they had as backup for the ground team.

quote:

A U.S. infantry company in 20 utility helicopters and 7 Cobra attack helicopters circled behind them. Behind these helicopters, B-52 Stratofortresses from Guam escorted by U.S. F-4 Phantom IIs from Kunsan Air Base and South Korean F-5 and F-86 fighters were visible flying across the sky at high altitude. At Taegu Air Base, F-111 bombers of the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing out of Mountain Home Air Force Base, were stationed, and F-4 Phantoms C and D from the 18th TFW Kadena Air Base and Clark Air Base were also deployed. The aircraft carrier Midway task force had also been moved to a station just offshore.[6]
In addition, near the edges of the DMZ, many more heavily armed U.S. and South Korean infantry, artillery including the Second Battalion, 71st Air Defense Regiment armed with HAWK missiles, and armor were waiting to back up the special operations team. Bases near the DMZ were prepared for demolition in the case of a military response. The defense condition (DEFCON) was elevated on order of Gen. Stillwell, as recounted in Colonel De LaTeur's research paper later. In addition, 12,000 additional troops were ordered to Korea, including 1,800 Marines from Okinawa.[6] During the operation, nuclear-capable strategic bombers circled over the JSA.[16] According to an intelligence analyst monitoring the North Korea tactical radio net, the accumulation of force "blew their... minds".[17]
Altogether, Task Force Vierra consisted of 813 men: almost all of the men of the United States Army Support Group, of which the Joint Security Force was a part; a South Korean reconnaissance company; a South Korean Special Forces company which had infiltrated the river area by the bridge the night before; and members of a reinforced composite rifle company from the 9th Infantry Regiment. In addition to this force, every UNC force in the rest of South Korea was on battle alert.

A few points: first, any flights we put off the Korean coast we don't taunt them with, which would be the express purpose of the B-52 flight. That's actively daring them to do something, and if they actually have an interceptor and pilot ready to go I think they would feel like they'd have to respond. China won't be in a position to stop them, nor will they do anything substantial afterwards. China knows the US won't react beyond strongly worded statements even if NK manages to put a BUFF in the water.

There's no reason to try poking that dog through the fence when we can just leave to poo poo all over its own little territory. We have absolutely nothing to gain but a lot to lose.
