Saw this in Costa Mesa today. It was amazing. The owner apparently started the meet that became the Cristal Cove C&C.

Were aston and jag engines of that era related? They look almost identical.

I'm no AM expert, but google tells me they had their own engine designer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tadek_Marek Also that AM bought lagonda just for engine technology.

The same way that all the big American V8s look the same, I would think -- they're both based on some ur-engine from way back, but not related per se.

There are a lot of wee plugs available for model engines. http://sparkplugs.morrisonandmarvin.com/index.php In the beginning, model aircraft engines were ignition, and did not have glow plugs. These days we are starting to see some more really good gasoline engines in the 15cc and even 10cc size range, so we are starting to see more plugs available for them.

Blew out right rear suspension. Have co-driver sit on front left to get the weight off the tire enough to drive back to a repair stage. Bonus: get credit for completing the stage!

I guess they're just trying to keep the weight off that clearly hosed back corner by having the codriver sit on the opposite corner? Still not as hardcore as the one who crawled under the hood to operate the throttle after the cable snapped.

// edit: or ^^^ that ^^^ I seem to recall that's the driver on the hood manually pulling the throttle cable and the co-driver steering. Can't find the story now, but there's another shot from this rally that was immortalized as the "this isn't my blanket" meme that failed to take off. Years ago a friend of mine had one of these, a freshly done replica based on a C4 corvette (he still has it, does parades and poo poo). I was never a fan of the old Batman stuff but it was goddamn sweet. One evening at a Christmas party gathering of friends, just after he got it, we were out in the driveway admiring it and another friend's replica of Herbie the Love Bug. As we stood there appreciating it, the Batmobile's parking brake popped, and it rolled backwards. Everyone lunged for it, trying to slow it enough for the guy to get inside and get on the brakes but alas. It was too much and kept rolling, crushing Herbie. The hill was steep enough that if Herbie hadn't sacrificed itself, the Batmobile would have rolled down the hill and probably into a neighbor's house. The damage to both turned out to be relatively minor, fortunately, and for a long time we were making jokes about Herbie saving Batman, but it was sort of loving surreal.
