I've seen it.
The shadow thing does get smaller the more you beat it up. Lucina's the same as Marth except shorter and her sword does the same damage all-around. Robin can only use his special attacks a certain amount of times until the individual special attacks break and he needs to wait for it to recharge, and he has a special sword for Smash attacks that can break as well. You can also use the sword in mid air. If you use a tilt, Robin will use a weaker sword and will default to that in mid-air instead. You can switch between the weaker sword and the stronger sword in mid-air by attacking like you would with a smash attack.

Man why is shield > throw such an effective anti-air? Played against a g&w and a duck hunt and both just spammed their projectiles until I tried to gap close in the air, only for them to shield my attack and throw me off the map again. How are supposed to deal with a shield from the air if it's your only way to get in? :argh:

You should do that not to discover Robin's gender but you should do it because it's an awesome game that's fun as gently caress to play even if you're me and you hate final fantasy tactics/advance wars and you've never played fire emblem or any final fantasy games past 7. Seriously probably the best game I've played on 3DS.

It's actually a serious post because "that" Roy rules and is "the" Roy when one makes any reference to a Roy. This is also a serious post.

So, uh. I don't know if this is old news, but... You know how Pac-Man can grab his bonus fruits off the ground if they don't hit anything? Well, I just found out by accident that you can z-drop them on people. And they do the damage they would have done as a projectile, while also being a giant bouncing hitbox. And then you can pick them up and drop them again, or just chuck them at your enemy instead. Please be aware that if your opponent is not a moron, they will figure out what you're doing and start doing it themselves.

So, let's go down the list, shall we?
Cherries only do 4%, but they're the easiest to grab because you don't have to chase them down. I can probably see this being the most useful just due to how immediately available it is, and how harmless it is if turned against you.
Strawberries do 6%, and are similar to cherries in that they come to a stop, making pickup easy. They do travel a bit farther, though, you'll need about a half-length of FD for it to settle down.
Melons do 12%(!!!) and have stupid launching power, but are mercifully a pain to chase down. You'll need almost the full length of FD and a running start to catch this one.
Galaxian ship does a respectable 9%, and is probably the easiest non-resting fruit to catch. Everybody knows about catching it by now.
The Bell does 8%, but its true strength comes from being able to throw it unexpectedly after picking it up. Around 70%, if you peg someone with the bell point-blank you get a free uncharged smash attack. Pretty nice!
You cannot grab the Orange, Apple, or Key by your own power, at least not to my knowledge.

So, there's that. Pretty neat party trick, I guess.

The Great Cave Offensive made it in because Sakurai made that game, much like all the Kirby+Kid Icarus stuff

Top level players jump off the side of the stage, throw the key at the side, then pick it up and get back on :smug:

I'm serious btw this is a real tactic. It seems way too easy to mess up though.

Also another pro tactic I never thought of with Pac Man: laying his trampoline on the ground. Now if someone tries to dash at you the trampoline bounces them up so they have to approach you from the air, and you can control the space with your hydrant and fruits too.

Wow, you really can grab the key by bouncing it off the stage, although the timing is super tricky. I could get it semi-reliably but it's probably not terribly practical in an actual fight unless I was doing something wrong.
You can catch the orange in this manner as well, and as it turns out, the apple can actually be grabbed through clever application of hydrant use. So, that's all bonus fruits accounted for! :toot:

And yeah, ground trampolines are great against characters with poor air game, like Little Mac. He does not enjoy trampolines. You can set up obstacle courses on the fly, it's pretty neat.

For real, this is the most frustrating thing. I often feel that the only way to really approach someone is with an aerial attack, but it feels so punishable to me that it's not really any better than staying on the ground. I should really play more characters with projectiles I guess.

TheKingofSprings

That's the fault of shields being so good in this. If that's all they're doing you might want to approach more on the ground, using your characters quick tilts mixed up with grabs.

I'm going to try beating Classic Mode with everyone on 7.0 (apart from the three who I already beat Classic with on 8.0, namely Ganondorf, Captain Falcon and Ike). Any tips for equipment? I don't know how to play most of these characters, so equipment builds (and custom moves) that make it easier would be greatly appreciated.

A game even more defensive than brawl and dodge rolling is too good as well, plus that air dodge to negate and air follow ups

I'm pretty adamant on maining shulk so I guess I'll just to get better at reading the shield when I am in the air. I've gotten some success with fast fall into grab, which for some reason let's me grab faster than regular falling. Also dash>roll backwards is a surprisingly robust mixup. You can bait out something easily punished fairly frequently.

Waverhouse

A highly sophisticated simpleton.
You can avoid the shield grab problem if you have a hitbox that hits around you, so you could do like a crossup-type-situation, or if you have an attack with enough knockback/reach that puts you out of grab range on block.

Both I think can be dealt with some quick pivot grabs, but at least they have to actually work for it.
