I generally don't actually post in the thread, but been following it all year. Suffice to say I can merely agree that this year was UGLY. Worst Middle East Cartoon A , this year was the first where I really followed the Palestine situation. This category in particular has awful, awful, AWFUL candidates this year, but the "Why indeed" part is a particular brand of bile I wish Ramirez would just choke on already. Worst Police Brutality Cartoon B No seriously, choke on it Ramirez. Worst Torture Report Cartoon G, "inarguable" indeed, you dense motherfucker. Worst The Interview Cartoon D I could not for the life of me figure out why this was made in relation to The Interview until someone pointed out how it was reusing stuff from one of Catalino's old ones. It wins for me just because of how forced it feels. Worst cartoon about a tragedy F, if your first reaction to a terrible thing like the Peshawar school massacre is "Sick burn on them moslems", what even the gently caress is wrong with you. Honorable mention goes to G for hilariously wrong it turned out to be regarding Ebola compared to the other things depicted. Worst caricature A, I'm not sure if this is oozing mostly contempt or incompetence. Incontempence? Worst "A Thing Happened" cartoon C , for which has to be one of the most masturbatory anniversary cartoons I ever read about anything, and for IBD of all things. Worst Label G DEBT DEBT DEBT DEBT Laziest cartoon A Whoever said Gorrell might as well get a lifetime achievement for this category was spot on. Most easily reinterpreted B Have another one you hack. Overall worst political cartoon of the year I, there was a LOT of victim blaming this year, but this one got to me the most by far. Best edit/parody The category that makes following the thread bearable. To everyone who contributes to these, thank you so much. This is by far the hardest one to decide on, but my vote is for I , every time I look at it, I find another beautiful reference to the horrors and joys of the year. This submission by Dry Bones, however, is a failure of cartooning: wordy, lazy and incoherent. Worst Police Brutality Cartoon: B Dear lord. This could be printed in a dictionary next to the entry for "victim-blaming." So loving smug, Ramirez. Worst Torture Report Cartoon: H I was going to select E, but I'm not certain it even qualifies as a cartoon. In H, Branco seizes a national tragedy as grist for his own unrelated agenda mill. "Environmental regulations are the real torture, amirite?" Worst The Interview Cartoon: B Hooray, lazy racism! Worst cartoon about a tragedy: H Huh? Worst caricature: A The glowing halo carries this abomination to victory. "This isn't even my final form!" Worst "A Thing Happened" cartoon: Q With minor adjustments to the captions, this cartoon could have been printed at any point during the last 30 years. And probably was. (Although F, literally an "A Thing Happened" cartoon, was a very strong contender.) Worst Label: K G's "DEBT DEBT DEBT" is head-shakingly bad, but K is the Jaden Smith Tweet of political cartooning. "How Can Labels Be Real If Cartoons Aren't Real?" Least concealed bigotry in a cartoon: H A very difficult pick, but I'm going with this one because it's not even a racist caricature. It's a photograph of a perfectly innocent woman who had the misfortune of posing for a stock photo. Let's assume she's a lazy idiot based solely on her skin color! Laziest cartoon: J On a deadline? To the photocopier! Most easily reinterpreted: B InequalityGodzilla said it best: "Swords into ploughshares? What sort of rear end in a top hat would want that?" Overall worst political cartoon of the year: I gently caress you, Ramirez. Best edit/parody: G I thought Bennett's original was actually quite clever, but this parody made me giggle because at heart I am twelve years old. Bonus points for "IDIOT SEES LETTERS ON A MAT."
