I seriously need to stop mistaking flash sales for daily deals. Hm... How's Amalur? Is it a single player MMO as I've read?

There's some neat ideas in there, but most of the world's info and backstory is told through dialog trees, and it's ridiculously easy to overlevel or overgear yourself. It's not as bad if you don't try to do every quest and ignore the crafting system, though. That being said, the state of Rhode Island would be very grateful if you did buy it.

Today's deals: Dishonored - THIS IS SO GOOD and the actual Thief 4, do not buy "Thi4f" you dumb fuckos, also get the bonus 2 part DLC campaign because it's a near-full-length campaign with altered powers Tomb Raider - An excellent use of your $4, decent gun and bowplay, fun platforming, and hilarious pratfalls. Lara is slamming her face into the ground throughout the entire game, it's nonstop hijinx Max Payne 3 - Relatively authentic sequel despite shedding the hard boiled atmosphere. Bullet time feels good and Max's prose is as idiotic and campy as ever Transistor - Cool action game that you can play however you want with all the different ways to attach 'programs' either as primary skill, alt skill or perks. Play it like an arcade game zipping around and zapping enemies or like a strategy game with the turn-based mode To the Moon - overrated schmaltzy game with lame comedy, RPG Maker-looking visuals, and a very telegraphed story. don't get the love people give this game at all

Curt Schilling was really into WoW, and decided to start his own video game company (despite knowing nothing about the industry) whose first game out of the gate was supposed to be an MMO based on a completely new IP nobody ever heard of.

mr. nobody posted:edit: also, wasn't it literally being made as a MMO before they ran out of time/money and pushed it out the door as a single player thing? No, it wasn't - it was originally a totally separate game developed by Big Huge Games; Schilling's 38 Studios bought out BHG and repurposed the game to serve as the intro to what would be the Amalur MMO: Wikipedia posted:38 Studios, owned by former baseball pitcher Curt Schilling, originally began developing the Amalur universe with a 10,000 year history created by R.A. Salvatore for use in a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), codenamed Copernicus this however was later scrapped after the 38 Studios and Big huge games were shut down. In 2009, they acquired Big Huge Games as Ken Rolston and his team had already been working on an RPG while Big Huge Games was part of THQ.[5] The studio decided to retool their existing single-player role-playing game (RPG) to be set within the same universe in order to introduce the Amalur MMORPG.[8] 38 Studios shutdown in May 2012.[9] edit: I know the general goon opinion is the game is not worth the time, but I got it at release and enjoyed it. YMMV.

If you don't have it, do yourself a favour and get it. Also, I'd recommend getting the GOTY, the story DLC (Knife of Dunwall and Brigmore Witches) is really good as well. Tomb Raider - Great game, fun gunplay/bow action, quite a bit of climbing to go around and it looks amazing. It also has settings for ~MAGICAL HAIR~ Max Payne 3 is something stupid like a 35gb download, so keep that in mind. I maintain that this game is worth it if only because of when the music kicks in at the airport sequence, but if you want to shoot some people in the face, you can't really go wrong. mr. nobody posted:Not my video, but skip to any random part of this video to see how it plays.

Quest For Glory II posted:Today's deals: To add my own impressions: Max Payne 3 - the gameplay is great but be warned it's full of long, plodding and unskippable cutscenes. This War of Mine - it's great on atmosphere and the gameplay is decent. The thread title for the game is "Sims: Wartime edition" and that's a decent comparison (there's combat but you want to avoid it as much as possible.) It's brutal and dramatic and for its benefit most of the emotion comes purely from procedural events. Recommended at that price. Divinity: Original Sin - it's a great old school style RPG. The plot is very cliche, but the writing's full of charm. There's a huge focus on exploration and the combat system's beautifully complex. It's also very pretty. Still, unless you really love Infinity Engine games (or the first couple Fallouts) you might not like Original Sin as while it has a lot of modern conveniences it's still married to those old styles. Age of Empires 2 HD - get Rise of Nations or Age of Mythology HD instead. AOE2 hasn't aged quite as well as the others. Mount and Blade: Warband - it's not very pretty but it's an incredibly deep medieval RPG/adventure with a similar framework to Sid Meier's pirates except with everything occuring in realtime. The combat engine is amazing and there's a huge variety of things to do. Avoid the Vikings expansion right now as it was pushed out the door way too early and still needs polish.

Red Faction: Guerrilla is a bargain at $3, especially if you like breaking poo poo. You can wreck pretty much every structure in the game; in fact you're pretty much required to because that's how you get cash. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Brwna1U_Y0 Just make sure you opt into the beta to remove GFWL.

Yup. It's probably not going to go away for a while (you can still switch to GFWL in the Betas menu) but they aren't offering keys for it anymore or anything. Expect similar for Dark Souls around February 16.

If anyone plans on getting Dishonored GOTY - I mistakenly bought it awhile back thinking (stupidly) that the DLC would be separate from the base game (which I already owned). If you want to bother digging out your old copies you can just punch the CD keys into your BNet account and it'll add them to your games list and you can just download the installer. Not sure about SC though.

It is ugly as poo poo, but the gameplay is awesome: you start from nothing, recruit more and more people as you go, acquire better gear and soon you are leading an actual army into battle. There is something deeply satisfying in seeing a volley of arrows hit the enemy troops. Also, there are many quality total conversion mods that are almost if not better than the vanilla game itself. I'd say get it.

Once you have a horse and a polearm, you can carve into armies like a hot knife through butter.
