Well, let me check the wiki...

One day, Mitsuki is visited by an angel/ghost named Hiyori, who takes over her body and make sexual advances towards Yuya. Hiyori is the lost spirit of a girl who died but can not reach the gates of heaven and so obtain eternal peace. In order to reach heaven, Hiyori puts a chastity belt on Mitsuki that fills up every time Mitsuki has sexual feelings from Yuya, whether it be from simply going on a date with him, to kissing and even sex. For every time it fills up, Hiyori gains a step on a bridge that connects her current situation and the literal gates of heaven. If she wants to get rid of the annoying Hiyori, Mitsuki has to make some bold and sexy moves against her own brother, even if he is just a stepbrother.

Hey, at least they are not real brother/sister. Progress!

quote:

Honestly, loads of people have marked this as "border-line hentai" i dont think it is, i think its a story of a young girl who usually spends her home life by herself and now has to adjust to someone else, she then has to deal with a rat who wants to have sex with her brother all the time. To me its a just a romantic comedy with a bit of ecchi in there. Definitely worth the watch, i watched it for its comedy and romance btw guys, not for cartoon porn... xD I suggest this to anyone who likes romantic comedies!

All right then, and I thought the KLK rationalizations were out there.

I wasn't seeing the nationalism up till then. That specific incident only kicked off my hate for it and made me initially realize how bad it was. Besides, I think that's a pretty big thing in and of itself. But at that point, the episodes that aired didn't really have any nationalism or racism, which ramped up in arcs after that.

Namtab posted:

Basically. That doesn't mean I'm into incest, I'm not, I just think you can't make it "better" by not having them blood related. That everyone is still creeped out by it proves my point. I would feel the same way about an anime if it had any weird fetish stuff in it. People trying to package things like that into a show but holding back and trying to serve it in a more palatable way just makes it even more ridiculous.

It's not a show to binge watch, it'd be like trying to binge watch HnK or one of the 3-digit episode shounen series. Back when a goon had LOGH hosted on a viewing website me and my friend would watch 2-3 episodes a day, and 5-6 on the weekends. It took like 2 months but I couldn't imagine trying to rush through the series

The "fake incest" fetishism trend went beyond merely creepy and became a tiresome cliche at some point. Fortunately the cliche has mostly died down over the past few seasons.

From what I heard, Recently, My Sister Is Unusual is super-disgusting for other reasons. Isn't it basically porn about the ghost girl sexually assaulting the sister? It's pretty high on my "not watching even out of morbid curiosity" list.

I think most anime danced around the edges of it for a while until OreImo blatantly did an actual incest anime. Since then its died down quite a bit, and I remember SAO started off really popular and had a lot of hype but once the cousin incest angle was introduced a lot of people gave up on it.

Raxivace
Sep 9, 2014

What made it weird to me in SAO was that the plotline almost worked as a kind of comment on internet anonymity, but it was still weird even without Kirito and his step-sister actually being related, and the whole thing was just bogged down by the unnecessary rape plotline in that arc anyways.

If it were written by an actual adult, maybe Fairy Dance could have actually been something interesting and maybe even thought provoking. Instead we got Fairy Dance.

"If only they didn't include the rape/incest/weird fetish subplot" can be applied to way to many anime series of the last decade as an argument for what would've made it way better. Just dropping either the incest angle or the "step-sibling" angle would've improved many shows, although for a few I imagine its the only reason it got made.

Romance/harem in anime used to follow a pretty reliable formula, but now rather then "new girl moves in next door, captures MC's heart" its "Hey son I re-married! Meet your new step-sister! Welp, me and the missus are leaving for a 14 month cruise, have fun!"

For all the KLK chat, without the creepy incest molesting it would've just been a tongue-in-cheek shameless fanservice over-the-top show rather then the mess most people in this thread regard it as.

I'd say the nationalism isn't as obvious in the anime as it is in the LN (aside from anti-Chinese, NIHON'S-THE-BEST sentiments, which I suppose is obvious :v:) There was, however, a detail that wasn't mentioned in the anime. I'm guessing you haven't read the LN, but remember how that naval base got "nuked" in the last episode? In the LN, that base was supposed to be in Korea...

It is a show where you don't get what you go in paying for, and it has a bad middle arc.

Kind of spoilery but not really comparison: It's the Metal Gear Rising of anime. Literally.

I liked it enough, even with it being pretty ugly a lot of the time and having a really dumb and boring middle arc.

I thought the middle arc was stupid and awful enough to be amusing, but then the closer they got to the ending the less entertaining the idiocy got and I never actually finished it.

Well, for a while it was. Then the author wrote the ending

quote:

At first, it is unclear if Kirino really loves him as a man or as a dependable brother, though in many, if not all, instances where other girls closes in to Kyousuke, she intervenes instantly. Her dependance on him made Kyousuke appreciate their relationship in the sense that he's able to realign their seemingly shattered relationship and accepting his capability as a good brother in his own way.

Despite the many girls that constantly confesses to him throughout the series; however, Kyousuke ultimately reveals that he actually harbors romantic feelings for his younger sister, and added that he has been harboring it for years to the point where he even proposes to her - which Kirino tearfully accepts and they decide to become couple until graduation day. After the graduation, it is implied that they still have a secret relationship, though not as open as before.

That was pretty much the start of the backlash, because the books constantly made it seem like he was falling in love with one of the other girls then BAM full on blatant incest.

Super bad, awful and useless middle arc.

Bad: it retroactively ruins the really good first arc that came before it.
Awful: it's terrible in its own right.
Useless: the first arc ends at episode 10, and the final arc picks up at episode 19 (of 22); you could entirely skip episodes 11-18, rework the intro of episode 19 a bit to tie into episode 10 rather than 18 ("a bit" in that it's just the main character reminiscing about events, just change a couple lines of dialogue), and still lose nothing worthwile.

If you think about it as a 14-episode series (1-10 plus 19-22) it's actually a good series (though not without its problems), it's the middle part that's 100% undiluted poo poo.

I could go in-depth since I have expended many :words: (not on these forums, but still) about this series, but since you asked for no spoilers I'll stop at this.
