Sorry this is a page back, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to cheerlead. LS motors already have everything you could possibly want on a gen1 SBC, and usually those things are big dollar items. For instance, the LS motor is full roller (cam, rockers), and has has 1.7:1 rockers. 1-piece rear main seal. A good classic SBC has 4-bolt mains; most have 2-bolt mains. LS motors all have 6-bolt mains. Everything except one motor in one year has aluminum heads. It's already set up for sequential spark and fuel, and the stock ECU is incredibly flexible. Plus, you can get big-block displacement in a small-block package, and with an aluminum block if you want to spend some more money. Oh yeah, and they're cheap; an iron block 5.3 should run you less than $500. The only argument for a classic SBC that I can think of is wanting to keep a swap simple (carburetor and distributor) just for the sake of being simple. If you're going to go through with wiring up electronic engine control, might as well get the whole package.

Thanks for the backup. My current SBC is a 4-bolt block, but non-roller and a 2 piece rear seal. "Retrofit" roller cams are available, but they tend to run a bit more than the standard. Add in new lifters and you're talking big bucks just to make that one change. The more I look into it, the more I really like the idea of an LS/LQ swap. There are guys building LQ strokers for not a lot of money and they're putting down stupid power levels.A 408ci in a small-block package would be just fine.

Yeah, our business culture in the US is poo poo. Vacations are a necessary thing, for example, but no one wants to take one because of all the stress trying to get your work done before you leave, and then all the stress when you get back and none of your work was done. And more than likely, you're going to worry about both while on vacation, so you either don't really get the relaxing time away from work, or the benefit is wiped away the second you get back. Sick time is just a unplanned little mini-vacation with the same effect. No one staffs properly to take up any slack, and you're expected to dedicate the entirety of your existence to the company - free time? Pfah! I don't know about you, but I work so I can afford to have and do the things I want while not at work, not because I enjoy work so much I can't stand it. I'm one of those people that if I made a hobby into a job, I would come to hate the hobby and the job. IT stuff is one that works OK for me - but my tolerance for working on my own and family's computers is diminished, of course.
I read an article a while back talking about the vacations and such, and it opined that we, now, are actually working more than our grandparents, possibly even parents, were, for less, ultimately. Oh, we have more stuff, but that's because "stuff" has gotten way cheaper - just look at the price of a TV versus, say, 1979. Lots of other consumer goods are similar. Less free time, more work while at work, more demanding, while not paying more or perhaps even less. Yeah, I *love* where this is going. Except for the guys at the top, who get paid obscenely large amounts of money that, frankly, no amount of human labor is worth, get paid even if they get fired, get paid even if the company fails, and will immediately get hired by somebody else, even if they get fired or kill the company. THAT'S a sick culture. And I don't know how to get out of it. I like my toys and gadgets, and the house they go in, so...

Uh, hey. Sorry about the rant there. Set of a nerve, I guess.
At least where I work is not retail, and sick time is not a big deal.

I totally spaced on those too. To get the GenI up to a full-roller valvetrain like that would take stupid money again.

That's part of what makes the LSx so great - it includes all of the upgrades people had been throwing on the old SBC forever, but now from the factory on an engine that is available in millions and millions of trucks, instead of just a high-cost option on a Corvette or Camaro.

I finally managed to watch the US version of "The Office", since I've learned where to skip the Gervais bits (all two of them). It was retarded and ended more sappy/crappy than the UK 2003 Chistmas special. I'm still pleased to have wasted a few days to watch it Jim had a Saabaru :3:.

I agree that it was good, and particularly a few of the fringe characters made their scenes great. Ron Swanson is a character that was so consistently good at being Ron Swanson his bits were never stale. Andy was a great character too in part to Chris Pratt and seeing him gain some success on the big screen is cool to see. Donna was probably the next best under rated character. EDIT: Jean-Ralphio stole ever single scene. He was such a douche that I loved every second of him on the screen. He was totally polarizing. People loved him or hated him which I think speaks well to the character. Getting some sort of emotion out of you is the point.

To call Parks & Rec the greatest comedy ever seems a bit of a stretch. There were seasons that were brilliant, and others not as brilliant. To this day I think I will say that Arrested Development (seasons 1-3) are the best comedic television show. Season 4 was still good but did not have the layers of complexity as the televised seasons. I will also give Community a nod for some of the best seasons of television comedy that I have enjoyed as well a stink face at how quickly things turned not as good with the creators departure.
