They had 20 years to work out some kind of non-marriage compromise and fought it all the way.

haha never change ireland.

The referendum looks like it will pass by miles: the most recent poll I could find had 77% support for marriage equality with undecided voters removed. Although that shouldn't be taken to mean that the thing will 100% pass because constitutional referendums have low turnouts and there is a very strong religious lobby in Ireland which is fighting this very hard. Even then the fact that loving IRELAND has polls showing two-third support for marriage equality including undecided people is something that really is quite impressive considering how powerful the Catholic Church was in the very recent past in Ireland...

The Associated Press posted:

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is not giving clear answers on whether she will keep up a legal battle over the state's ban on gay marriage.

A federal judge ruled last year that Florida's voter-approved ban is unconstitutional. Bondi's office has appealed the ruling.

But U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle stayed the effect of his ruling until Jan. 5. Same sex couples have now started getting married throughout the state.

Bondi was sworn into a second term on Tuesday. After the ceremony, she said her top attorneys are still reviewing whether to continue the state's appeal.

Bondi said she still wants the U.S. Supreme Court to take up the case and rule on whether state bans on gay marriage are legal. Bondi said she wants marriage laws to be uniform.

Keep on truckin', Pam. I'm sure you've almost got this.

OK so it's not Same Sex Marriage in Vietnam, but it's pretty close and way further than a country like Vietnam is really expected to be at. Really puts shame on a lot of European Countries, the existing US States, and other countries like Australia for this issue.

Yeah it's before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. They're doing a hearing for LA, TX, and MS. I'm not clear on whether they're just hearing arguments today, or if a decision is expected at the same time or what.

That's why we have judges; to judge things. They're also supposed to be impartial, which is why we appoint rather than elect them.
