I've started playing Super Mario Galaxy 1 on the Wii U and the upconversion does a good job of making it look pretty freaking sweet. You can still tell it's SD, but it looks much better than 4:3.

Mayflash, known for poo poo that works well but feels like it has cheap build quality, is coming out with a new USB Gamecube controller adapter that's functionally the same one bundled with Smash and then some. It's not on sale yet and the first of these links is the only place I know of with a pre order. Rumors are Feb 3rd release, it will probably be $20.

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/MayFlash-4-Ports-for-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-for-Wii-U-PC-USB/635732_32265474473.html

It will work with Smash but not require it for other stuff where it acts as an HID USB device. It will work with Gamecube games via Nintendon't out of the box. It will work with a PC without installing anything, however rumble will require a driver which they say they'll have but will probably be Windows-only.

I'm excited for this because I want to play Smash Bros and Gamecube games on my Wii U, but using a Dual Shock 3 or 4 for those just isn't the same. I'm not paying ebay/amazon prices for the adapter and who knows when they'll be back in stock. Plus I've had this Smash branded GC controller sitting on my shelf for far too long. I might want to use my GC pads with the PC sometime which makes Mayflash's thing better than the official one.

Yea definitely, in fact, it's better that you haven't played Pushmo because I believe a number of the puzzles in Pushmo World are just transplants. It's a pretty simple puzzle game, in that there's only a handful of moves you can do (push or pull blocks to create stairs.)

That's excellent news but I'm sort of worried about input lag on all of those cheapo devices. It's always a problem with some adapters for older consoles, and I believe mayflash made some of the laggier ones.

I'm glad someone's picking up Ninty's slack though.

Time to bring back sales charts!!!!

But seriously, Sony just put out sales figures of 18.5 mil consoles. This generation may turn out to be the PS2, Xbox, Gamecube generation all over again.

I've heard it argued that sales charts dictate where third-party games go, but the last console generation disproved that hypothesis - the Wii sold a butt-load of units and nobody developed for it. So you're right, they're mostly meaningless. Every major third party with half a brain will be going PS4/Bone/PC regardless of console sales because AAA development needs tons of sales to reduce costs, and the Wii U will continue to have bunches of awesome/cute Nintendo games and a handful of good third-party games just like every Nintendo console since the N64.

Besides, no amount of console sales will get SM3DW, Captain Toad, or MK8 on the PS4. :colbert:

I'm not sure that's how money works. Sales are supposed to make profits, not reduce costs. Unless AAA development has gotten even more expensive than the last time I looked, which wouldn't surprise me.

I just recently got a Wii U because there were enough games I wanted for it. I'm looking through the list of PS4 and Xbone titles and there's just nothing that I want that isn't already for PS3 or 360. I'll probably get a PS4 once Street Fighter V comes out, but hopefully that's still a couple years away.

Modern AAA games just don't appeal to me at all. I don't care how popular something is or how many people like it. I care how much I enjoy something. Smash, MK8, Mario 3D World and Bayonetta are really fun. My roommate plays Destiny constantly and the game is like the total antithesis of what I enjoy.

Sorry, I should have phrased that better. Replace "reduce" with "mitigate."

Either way, my point is that middleware tools have got to the point where it's almost trivial to port games between MS/Sony consoles and PC. That's why you don't see many single-console-exclusive third-party games anymore, unlike the PS2 generation where half of everything was PS2-only.

I wouldn't know completely, but in theory I suppose you could try doing it the manual way? Ie, same way you'd move save data from the Wii U hard drive to an external unit. The only thing would be that you'd have to transfer the relevant Mii as well (if you can), so that you could access the save.

Awesome!
