Spending $35 for a bunch of kewpie mayo and fake crab meat is bad with money, no ifs ands or buts. That platter looks quite unappetizing, and I say that as someone who sometimes gets those giant baked/fried/five sauce monstrosities that in no way resemble "a slice of fish."

pig slut lisa posted:Lots of hot takes itt about sushi quality, and how cool it is to like the good kind instead of the bad kind. Around here all sushi places are all-you-can eat. It's expensive, but it's pretty good actually. There are a lot of fried rolls with fancy sauces and such. ^ yes exactly. They are fairly tasty though, if not a delicacy. However when I was in the Tokyo airport, at a restaurant they had in there, I had the best piece of sashimi ever. It was extremely expensive, but I chose the fattiest cut of Tuna (they had three different fatty grades, with more fat being better). It was one of the most memorable pieces of food I've ever had because it was so good. Nothing I've had stateside has ever compared, to be certain. Maybe around the SF bay area, or just coastal cities they would have something comparable though?

I think it's funny because it's expensive and their social media bragging of "look how fancy we are!" is misplaced when they aren't very fancy at all. I only eat sushi prepared from hand-caught fish prepared by blind Japanese monks.

I was poking fun at everyone who ignored the opportunity to ridicule the windfall guy for moving to a new rental house (I assume this is what Knyteguy means and they didn't purchase an investment property), buying a car, getting a freaking impulse-buy exercise machine (how many times is that getting used before it ends up on craigslist?), or even going out to eat at a stupid high frequency in favor of poking fun at the quality of the meal (and subtly demonstrate how they're in the know about the finer things). Like yes, obviously "it makes sense to not overspend for a bad product". But the particular sushi on the plate in the picture is the least objectionable thing about the whole situation. e: It's like if we saw something from r/personalfinance about a guy using bitcoins to buy a round of drinks for the whole bar and then we made fun of his taste in beer pig slut lisa fucked around with this message at 19:06 on Jan 6, 2015 |

The final word from that poster: http://forum.thecontrarianinvestor.com/index.php?threads/gt-advanced-technologies-inc-gtat.69/page-556#post-27423 quote:Just checking in. Hope everyone here is recouping as best as one can under these circumstances. I spoke with a realtor today and will sit down to draw up papers to put my house on the market this weekend. Still feel terrible in terms of how this will affect my son. I learned a lot about people through this entire process and, sadly, a lot was not good. I have been told that I am way too trusting of people and believe that when someone makes a promise he or she will keep it. I couldn't believe someone would intentionally set out to destroy others without any regard, but it is a lesson learned. A very hard lesson. I want to teach my son he can trust others but it's a challenge as to who he can trust. He can always trust God, me and his sisters! I am blessed with wonderful children and a God who will always love all of us and always speak truth and keep the promises He makes. God bless everyone here and I wish you all the happiest of thanksgiving. The saddest part for me is not being able to take my son to spend this thanksgiving with his sisters, nieces and nephews. Those who set out to deceive and make false promises won't even think about how they have affected us. I leave it to God to speak to them and help them see that it is always best to do what is right, speak the truth and if you make a promise, actually keep it. Just saw a documentary about Enron that I am going to watch. Seems appropriate.

Often because people don't actually talk about these things before marriage comes up and then it hits them over the head, or their partner starts talking about life-things. Or just because people have it in your head that you must buy a house after being married otherwise you're unsuccessful/losers. The idea of being a provider, or the reality of someday becoming a single income home if they want to have kids. There's a lot of weird, hard to account for pressures when it comes to marriage/home ownership that come from the cultural side of things, not financial. But I'd say in general that many people don't independently change/grow up until they have a specific reason to.

Some of these people clean up quick when they get into a relationship, but many couples remain train-wrecks until they get married and reality sets in. Then the long uphill climb begins. This is how people become slaves in the developed world.

People in NYC may be interested in Ben Rimalower's solo show Bad With Money, running at The Duplex through February. His story is a little on the hairy side even for this thread, starting with the familiar "blowing your entire paycheck on junk" episodes but eventually getting into prostitution, drug/alcohol addiction, and embezzlement. Outside of some harrowing stretches on those topics, it's actually pretty funny (though a high tolerance for musical theatre references helps).
