well, he did catch that ball, and maybe we'll get a rule change out of it since Dallas is a pretty big team with some pull and any Dallas fan is rightfully pissed at the application of a lovely rule

I agree the rule shouldn't exist. If it didn't, I'd be pissed off right now. It's not like Dallas is the only team who ever got hosed by that rule.

But it should be priority #1 of the rules committee this offseason to change it.

I've seen games go perfect for 12 innings all for naught. I've seen no-hitters pitched on illicit drugs. Homer streaks lasting eight games and 20 run losses. I've seen pennants won and seasons collapse. All these memories will be lost in time. Like tears in the rain.

Time to die.

nah, the buccaneers or redskins had a TD taken away from them in a wild card game back in 2005 because of this rule, and the player went into the end zone during the process

I don't think it's that clear cut even under the rule, but it's definitely a reasonable call. It's just a bad unnecessary rule.

I didn't think he obviously had control until after the ball hit the ground by the way they call that horrible, horrible rule, but hey I was rooting against the cowboys so I would have to watch it again in a week

Right but you're telling people they aren't allowed to be upset or bothered about it until after the rule's been changed.

edit: That or you think they're unaware of what the rule is even though everyone is aware of the rule thanks to Calvin Johnson.

I don't think the going to the ground rule will change. But I bet they put in some stricter penalties to deal with all these big scuffles that seem to be happening more often, I almost guarantee it. Offsetting penalties and the odd ejection/fine ain't cutting it.

Not like it bothers me, but it seems like something the league would do.

Also I don't think going to the ground is an unnecessary rule but it is an overextended rule and combined with the lack of objective criteria on the 'football move' in the rulebook leads to a lot of bullshit

Calvin Johnson in 2010 for example loses the ball WHILE GETTING UP but because the 'football move' is this non-specific "go with your heart" determination they ruled that it was not a football move

Let's all take a moment to remember who the real worst playoff team was, the Dallas Cowboys didn't take a delay of game penalty on 4th and 1 then punt the ball at 4th and 6.
