I like Brook's new design too, but I still feel like we didn't get enough of his old one. I think most of the post-timeskip designs are too busy; I still prefer pretty much all of the original designs too. Oh well, I guess.

I love the timeskip designs, I think they're all much improved, particularly Zoro and Luffy. Though I'm hard pressed to say if I like Zoro's new design more than mustachioed Zoro in a suit! Bubble tit Nami and Robin were a problem pre-timeskip as the series progressed.

I agree, preskip the designs were great. Especially Robin and Nami, not sure what happened with Robin. She went from a full character to another chick. Maybe this will change?

edit: Next week ep is titled Usopp dies. Omg does that mean sogeking will come out? yay!

This bothers me as hell, she was really great back when we still knew her only as Miss All-Sunday and during the Ennies Lobby crisis. Then she lost all her features (both visual and character) and grew boobs to make up for it. I swear sometimes they barely even spend the necessary time to draw her face.

Speaking of franky... is he amazing or what? He is holding out against several top members of the family AND the navy at once. They're probably dragging it out but its pretty cool that he continues to bounce back again and again. I'm really hoping he stops trying to stall and starts kicking rear end.

I just watched the first episode of Paced One Piece on a whim and this show was.... not what I thought One Piece was. I am so shocked.

I'm not super interested in watching the whole show but this was like, bizarre, and kinda cool as a fan project thing.

I thought One Piece was a happy show about colorful pirates who get into fights but then become friends.

Episode 1 of Paced One Piece had: A kid maim himself, some dudes get straight up murdered with a pistol, and then someone getting eaten by a sea monster and someone else getting their arm torn off.

Was not expecting Brutal Murder Funtime.

Well, it is that. It's also all the dark stuff that you mentioned, but One Piece has always had a very good balance between the two. Also should have known what you're getting into when you're dealing with pirates!

Your reaction is interesting since the anime did go outta of its way to rearrange the chapters so that Luffy's backstory came up later, so it did start off with light-hearted adventures first before digging into Luffy's beginnings. Obviously, One Pace changed it back to the manga's beginning.

One Piece is exactly what you thought it would be and so much more. :allears:

It's too bad you don't wanna watch the series, even if you only watch the first dozen episodes it's still great to hear a first time viewers experience watching the show.

Well, that's quite silly. I know newer episodes are really bad and need to be fan edited just to be tolerable, but the older stuff is still really good if not the best and doesn't really need to be sped up. I mean, maybe cut out the east blue dragons, those were dull, but otherwise even the filler was enjoyable back in the day. Seems like a waste of resources.

I'm not criticizing it, the first episode that I watched was pretty alright, ridiculous animation problems aside. I was just alarmed that the show wasn't like, Pokemon. I expected Piratemon in all honesty. It's probably a good thing that it isn't Pokemon, I actually thought this episode was pretty alright and created a pretty good starting point.

Anyway, I don't think I'm going to be watching any more, I only really watched the episode cuz I was like "Wow, a fan went and did all this work?". The show itself really doesn't interest me at all.

You'll be surprised (and terrified) by the amount of effort fans will put into something.

I also think you should give real One Piece a shot. It certainly takes its time, but it's worth it. Reading the manga might be faster though if time is your concern. Try to watch three episodes and then decide if you like it (the old three episode rule).

Regarding the lastest episode (lots of thoughts): I was really hoping Ussop would actually do something... Especially because everyone had so much faith in him. I don't know if it was to pad the anime or something, but it's insane how much encouragement he needed to do something so critical. And they didn't even show the fight. And if Ussop could have surprised Trebol enough to cut him, why didn't he just aim at Sugar? Or use fire? Also what happens when she sleeps at night? Is this why they return to the Toy House every night? And why does Soldier-san follow that order? Isn't he wanted for stealing the king etc? And I know Sugar fell unconscious right after (for no good reason [what was she expecting would happen?!]), but she touched Ussop. I kind of wanted to see his toy form. At least SOP is finally over so stuff can happen maybe.

The fight played out similarly to how it was presented in the manga - mostly offscreen. As for the use of fire, presumably Trebol can choose whether his slime is flammable or not (like Caeser Clown with his gas).

The toys stay toys 24/7. Sugar doesn't lose control over them when she sleeps, only when she's violently forced into unconciousness. It's not like this is the first time something like this has been shown - look at Moira for example.

Kyros/Soldier doesn't return to the Toy House each night, because he didn't get the contract "obey us, don't harm us, etc". He's a fugitive toy though, as seen when he's introduced.

Sugar touched Usopp but wasn't actively using her power at the time. She just wanted to force him to swallow the "poisoned" grape, expecting him to die/pass out. She didn't know it was super hot, and certainly wasn't expecting Usopp's horrifically violent reaction face. She was scared shitless by that, hence fainting from shock.

And yes, stuff can happen now. :)

Ah, right. She only knew they were trying to force her to eat it and only assumed it was poisoned.
I guess Toy Soldier only claimed to go back to the Toy House every night then so that Rebecca wouldn't know and then accidentally get them in trouble or whatever.

The anime will never again catch up with the manga. They have ensured this by never covering none than one chapter's worth of material in an episode. The manga is still far out of sight.

The manga is about 30 weeks ahead of the anime which, I think, is about where it's been sitting for a while now.

I'm actually fine with just having one real episode per month. In fact, they should probably just do that. Air repeats 3 weeks, new episode 4th week or something. Or make it one of those 12 minute shows, but keep the 4 minute OP. :v:

I have a feeling Fuji TV would never let that fly. It's been mentioned before but the reason why One Piece and other long runners don't take a season off is because by continually producing content, they don't lose their timeslot which apparently is difficult to get back if they go off the air. Japan just doesn't do reruns for whatever reason other than the occasional reairings like Psycho-pass and gundam seed hd.

There's also the issue that putting out horribly paced crap doesn't seem to affect viewership. So why bother with spending money on filler arcs when you can just toss a couple more bucks at your Foley guy to get double the running sounds?

I think the viewership is slowly dwindling from the pacing. It's probably not enough to make a difference, but I know a decent amount of people in Japan have given up on the anime lately.

It's the loving fastest manga out there, even to this day it's kinda insane just how much stuff can happen in a single chapter.

A good example was the most recent flashback, just six panels, maybe half a page, still made people cry. You can read it in like 20 seconds. I can't wait to see how the anime fucks it up.

One Pace, the series one that trims and speeds up the anime, not the manga itself. The manga is def hella fast and awesome for it. And even when the chapters don't significantly advance the story, they're entertaining as hell.

Despite Blackbeard's claim that his Yami Yami no Mi is the "most evil" of the fruits, I can't imagine it being more evil than the Hobby Hobby fruit. Families are being torn apart, people are cheating on each other, and the toys can't do anything but watch it all happen. Blackbeard doesn't even seem like he can use the typical movement or invulnerability aspects of being a logia. I'm not even sure what the Yami Yami no Mi does that haki doesn't do anyway. They've really made logia types a lot less threatening since haki. I remember Enel was talking to down to Luffy for having a paramecia type, and even at one point saying "Oh, he's just a paramecia type, so I've seen the extent of his ability already." But the paramecia have basically infinite extra and side abilities (like Law's Scalpel or Shambles or any of his many other tricks). And like the Hobby Hobby fruit dominates any person that she touches and turns them forever into her slave - that's crazy powerful.
I really hope they go more into why the Yami Yami no Mi was worth all the trouble Blackbeard went through to get it.

Did you forget the part where Blackbeard stole someone else's devil fruit? I'm not sure if it was clear that he could only do that once or just have a whole load of powers available for use. If he can do it more than once, the fruit gives you a huge incentive to just hunt down and kill devil fruit users to absorb their powers.

Hasn't Blackbeard only displayed the Gura Gura in one arm? Marco comments Teach's body is different so I'm guessing maybe he lost an arm and had someone else's grafted on. So he can take powers from one person and push them into someone else, and in his case someone else's arm. Now that we know fruit's regenerate I wonder if the Gura Gura will considering it momentarily had no user.
