The hollowbody odyssey continues, gently caress Casinos forever. I am cautiously optimistic, and I have to say the finish on this instrument is flawless. Also Bigsby lol. How hard is it to install a compton bridge on one of these anyway?

So after mooching around various music shops I think I've come to the conclusion that while I really want another guitar I don't know if I can justify it. Any time I look at a product demo I think to myself: I can't play half as well as that guy, why do I need more equipment? I need more practise!

That's not a bad thought but sometimes I just get bored and really get inspired when I get a new piece of gear, or even a new set of pickups. New pedals are a good way to inspire you without breaking the bank.

Usually if you refret a Gibson with a bound neck that means you lose the fret nibs/fret end binding. I've heard tale of a few techs that will pull the binding on a neck and refret it with the shorter frets/frets that had the tang cut shorter that Gibson uses, and then rebind the neck and then do whatever it is that Gibson does to create the fret end binding. I will ask as soon as I'm back in the shop. People actually like those binding nibs? I've never been keen on them myself. I prefer the old style, even with a bound neck.

I prefer the look and feel of them in my hand. Not a deal killer. I mean, if it is gonna cost me a grand total to get the whole thing done then I'll just eventually sit with a refret and kiss the nibs good bye.

Any time I look at a product demo I think to myself: I can't play half as well as that guy, why do I need more equipment? I need more practise! Jesus christ, this! My mates kinda suck rear end at guitar but have so much god drat gear. Pedals, massive amps, and a ton of guitars (as well as the odd bass and electric violin) yet they can't land a gig or even get people into what they "play" because they can't keep time for poo poo or understand something as rudimentary as chord progressions. With my $200 acoustic and justinguitar lessons, I've progressed more in six months than they have in the five years we've causally "jammed". Don't get me wrong, I'm not comparing you to my lovely friends who refuse to learn any music theory because they don't want to be "constrained". I'm of the opinion that less is more, and I think awesome musicians are born out of boring ol' practice. It's nice to see someone else echo these sentiments (though the temptation of new gear is always there, I know that firsthand). Maybe I just have lovely friends. You know something is severely wrong when the drummer is the one bitching people out for not knowing their basics.

A good way to limit the gear that you buy and practice with what you have is to play left handed, your guitar options are so limited the temptation to buy a new guitar is rarely a problem!

Nope because I'm the judge of that and if I'm having fun creating then I'm on the right path. My personal opinion is never overanalyze yourself in this field, or any art. If you want something and can afford it, get it. If you don't want anything and would rather spend that time and thought practicing, go for it. Do not under any circumstance compare your worth as an artist to any standard set by anyone.

Anyone ever played a PGM100, 150, or 250? I was thinking about grabbing one but I'm pretty nervous about their origin country (China). Any recommendations for a fixed bridge, thick neck, HSH or SSS guitar would be appreciated. I've been playing an RG3570z but I think the 25.5" scale is too long, the neck (wiz II) is too thin, and I can't stand floating bridges. I've actually been playing a flying V and it owns but the shape is awkward and I need single coils, plus the neck could be even thicker.

I really like a lot about Circle K but man does that guy ever take forever to ship his strings. It's pretty frustrating considering I can get free 2day shipping from Amazon. Also strange how my balanced set feels amazing and very bouncy on bass but the balanced 10-45 set I put on my PRS Singlecut feels very stiff. The 10-46 PRS strings felt so much more rubbery and soft, I might end up sticking with them. They lasted longer than any NYXLs I've had as well.

Oooh, the PAC510V has the P-rails Single/P90/Humbucker. You all want P-Buckers! Ask Sockington! Edit: What's wrong with Premier Guitar? Honestly, it's pretty good, little gear-sniffy, but not too bad. GREAT articles on wiring stuff up, shows off old gear, talks about ways to play rather than publishing tab. I mean, it feels like it should be embarrassingly pretentious, but it seems pretty okay actually. Warcabbit fucked around with this message at 16:16 on Jan 14, 2015 |

I like the idea of having p90s, PAF style humbuckers, and hot humbuckers all in one guitar. It would be nice to throw in strat neck as well. I wouldn't much miss either the quack or bridge single coil. Supposedly you can get a better strat neck sound by flipping the rail towards the neck, but you lose a little bit of the quack. Which would be fine by me. Is there really much difference in the voicing between series and parallel that you have noticed? Or is it just a difference in output? At any rate. Thanks for the input.

They sound pretty hot, but that might also be due to the active boost on the guitar.

Something like the bottom diagram on the link below but with two 2-way switches instead of push/pulls. But from the sounds of it, there are two ON-OFF-ON 3 way switches that control each pickup like the middle diagram. http://www.seymourduncan.com/blog/the-tone-garage/the-p-rails-wiring-bible-part-3/ I keep thinking I am going to wire up a strat (cause I can't get enough strats) like either the icon 2 or icon 3. But that is probably a bit into the future as I am currently wiring up a strat for a p90/humbucker combo. Which is something I have wanted to do for about a year and finally decided to go for it.

So when I was at my lesson on Monday I left my guitar with the shop. The Stewart Macdonald pots I used to replace the pots that came on the mexi had pretty much gone to poo poo in a matter of months. Noisy and the DPDT pot for the bucker coil tap didn't tap anymore at all, so full bucker had vanished. Got a call from their tech last night; he said the guitar was ready to go. I went in to pick it up and the new pots were awesome, smooth, and he moved the tap up to the volume knob with a push-push pot (switches crazy fast and easy now). He basically gutted the wiring and re-did all of it. I was way, way happy, until I got to position 4 on the blade. Regardless of how the bridge was toggled, total phase issue: volume just vanished in position 4. Ah well, should be fixed by tomorrow.

My guitar has two 3-way switches, one for the pickup selection and one for the coil splitting. It's probably wired up like the first diagram on that page. It'd be pretty cool to blend the different types of coil splitting, though.

Finding them used seems to be more difficult that you would expect, but when you can, it seems like you can get them for $40 or less. Not bad at all.
