I gather these days Cyc can learn through reading news and conversing in English (text), rather than through direct translation and entry of propositions in CycL by knowledge engineers

Lenat & co's papers "The Nature of Heuristics I-III" are good reading if you can find them, as is the paper describing RLL-1 which is the predecessor to CycL.

My Guarantee Rates Were Calculated based off of GMT instead of CST, resulting in >$100 difference in payout. (self.uberdrivers)
submitted 37 minutes ago by san antonionightauthor

Pretty much said it all in title, I downloaded the CSV version of the pay report to figure out why my estimates for my guarantee payout was so off. I noticed that the total rides for each of the days was wrong. When I went to match the CSV to the list on the driver dashboard I noticed that the times and dates did not match, but that the number portion of the time did. I looked closer at the CSV and the date-time is formated
Year-month-day"T"hours:minute:seconds+TimeZone.
The timezone in this case was 00:00 meaning GMT.
I ran the numbers with the incorrect date-time information and came very close to what was actually paid out (Minutes Online was estimated because I hadnt been keeping track at this point).
This means I was working off-peak-hours according to the system, when I thought I was working Peak-Hours

The impact of Uber fee changes on airport flat rates. (self.uberdrivers)

In a follow up to the fee changes from last week, Uber in Atlanta sent a message saying they were also ending flat rate fees to the the airport... The impact: what was a $46 fare is now $19 on average. Wow.

Can someone help me understand this? The quarantine fare only apply to the hours worked, right? It doesnt average out the whole weeks earning, correct?
I only worked one block of guarantee hours. Saturday from 5PM to 3AM (I had one ride start before 3 AM but end after 3 AM so i dont even know if this counts towards my average). During this 10 hours i made 110.89. Which is just shy of 12/hour.
So arent i a bit short?

Similar thing to my, according to my calculations, I made ~$100 in 10 hours on 12 rides. I accepted every last ride, and worked 10 hours. I should be comped ~$60 for this night. But somehow for the whole weekend I got $24.

what was the gurantee? did u log out for over 10 minutes at all, im assuming even missing it by a second would be fare game for them to not give you a gurantee for said hour, to be safe i have made sure not to log off for more than 9 minutes.

[–]aesthetic-as-gently caress 1 point 7 hours ago (+1/-0)
They straight up lied to me, saying "I checked your invoice and you made X, which is more than the guarantee." Uh, no I didn't. And the other guarantee I supposedly didn't hit the rating. I was way more rating friendly than I usually am, so I find that hard to believe. My overall average is just about what the guarantee threshold is. How could I not get it if I took up the politeness several notches? This wasn't a one day small sample situation either, it was all week long for 15 hours, which is probably 45 rides.

[–]jamesenson 1 point 46 minutes ago (+1/-0)
I was stoked with the guarantee. It was fun to watch the look on my passengers face as they waited to see how low the fare was. One guy was so stunned, he even gave me $20. My statement reflected a nice increase in the miscellaneous section. All this bitching and moaning, threatening to strike nonsense. I hope all you whiners don't mess it up for the rest of us who actually enjoy doing this. I wish you would just quit and find some other employment so I can have all the rides LOL

The only way to make these work is by sitting in parking lot while other drivers deflect the pings. Then do your 1 ride an hour and hope that they aren't complete cunts and give you a 4. That actually worked once.

Last night I got the text from Uber: "Sam Smith Concert at the Liacouras Center at Temple. Concert ends at 10:45pm tonight, expect a lot of trips from Broad and Montgomery. Uber is an official transportation sponsor for this concert and there are not a lot of cabs around Temple so expect demand."

I parked directly in front of the venue at 10:30 PM and stayed until 11:30 PM, and no one even came out of the building. The custodial staff were in there cleaning and wiping down the windows, leading me to believe the show had long since ended and everyone had gone home.

I also sat in Center City for 25 minutes through 2x surge without ever getting a ping earlier in the night. Why is there a surge if there is no demand? And if there is demand to create long surge, why am I not getting a ping!?
