First, he refused to summit with her because he thought she would get herself and others killed. Then he dumped her in the hands of two inexperienced sherpas so he wouldn't have to deal with her. Later he ran into her on the way to the summit, saw she didn't have nearly enough oxygen to climb, and told her in no uncertain terms she was about get herself killed. She still didn't listen and well you know how that ended. At the end of the Doc her family tries to blame the Neplaese Govt and the sherpas for her stupidity. Dumasses. Her husband oddly doesnt seem upset about her death.

I don't understand why they don't offer a cheap $10,000 package where they send you to a Motel 6 in Idaho for two months, and then send you home with a folder of Photoshopped Everest summit photos.

Sadly, Yellowsuit Photoshop Woman was successfully taken down the mountain and cremated in her native Kathmandu, so her idiocy only lives on as internet memes, her defunct facebook, and folk tales - rather than a yellow Canadian flag-draped mummy that climbers can look to and re-evaluate their (soon to be over) lives.

That's loving bullshit. Why'd they take the time to drag her unwanted corpse down from the mountain when so many others are still up there? Honestly I now want to have my body laid to rest at the summit. The ultimate sky burial.

Hitlers Gay Secret posted:That's loving bullshit. Why'd they take the time to drag her unwanted corpse down from the mountain when so many others are still up there? IIRC, her family wanted the body removed, and paid a huge amount of money for sherpas to risk their lives to do so. Also, I think it's technically illegal to leave bodies on the mountain and the locals really aren't fond of having their holy pile of rock and snow covered in foreign icemummies. So they'll often do corpse retrieval if people die in (or the elements move them to) an accessible place. Ones in the Death Zone are a lot less likely to be bothered with since it's hard to do anything there other than try to get out as soon as possible.

I watched the documentary last night, and holy poo poo, that adventure company sounds awesome. It's interesting though watching people do this, as someone who wants to take up club car racing later in life. Even with all the safety tech and modifications you have to make to race even at a club level, I would still feel slightly irresponsible doing it if I had a wife, kids etc. It's kind of spectacular watching people with no mountaineering experience decide they'll just jump right in and try to summit the tallest mountain in the world with its documented crowding issues and the death zone. LIke I feel I would be more prepared to climb Everest at the moment than Yellowjacket ever was just because I've read this thread in GBS.

SaltLick posted:She'd probably have been fine if she didn't waste 30 minutes up there loving around. Seriously, this was probably the most ridiculous thing she did (aside from coming in the first place with absolutely no mountaineering experience at all). Most people hang out on the summit just long enough to admire the view for a few minutes and take a few photos. Then they get the hell out of Dodge because it's dangerous up there and since tons of rich morons have added Everest to their bucket list, there's probably a line behind you. She was already in severe distress on her ascent, and the descent is much more difficult and potentially lethal for a lot of climbers. But no, she sits up there for half an hour like her brain hasn't been slowly killing itself for the past 18 hours.

SaltLick posted:She'd probably have been fine if she didn't waste 30 minutes up there loving around. She ran out of oxygen so early on in the descent that I doubt it even mattered. I mean it sure as hell didn't help her chances, but she was probably doomed the moment she decided to try to summit despite not having nearly enough oxygen to make it back down.

Oh gently caress now he lowered me over a ledge and we're stuck sitting like this cause he can't see cause the storm and doesn't know. Oh gently caress he cut the rope. Oh gently caress I've fallen into a deep crevasse and my friend thinks I'm dead and left. Oh gently caress my legs are messed up and I can't get up. Might as well go down further.
