Not really an idiot example for me, but when my platoon took over QRF at Korean Village we inherited a shipping container from the previous army unit(82nd or 101st I think). In the container was a couple eotechs, a 240 reciever, backpack ECM systems, some NVGs, cyz-10(no key), a 117 and a lot of random non-serialized gear.

That reminds me of the time I went into a transport room and looked into a rack and there were a bunch of torque wrenches under the floor. Not hidden under the floor, just placed through the hole in the floor inside the equipment rack. We put them on the cart we had and brought them back to the shop. When we got back, some other shop freaked out about how they weren't technically in their tools program, were hidden because of an inspection and why would we bring them back? Probably because they weren't even hidden and we didn't want to get in trouble for having unaccounted for tools in our floor.

In Iwakuni at the test cell there was a bunch of random untracked poo poo that was hidden in the rafters of one of the buildings, hell I don't think anyone even knew about the poo poo being there because it had been up there for so loving long untouched. We had a goddamn NAVAIR inspection show up and GySgt rear end in a top hat makes a loving beeline to the test cell, climbs up the ladder and goes "WHAT IS ALL THIS poo poo UP HERE?!!"

No one had any idea it was up there at all so they start going through the box and seeing some paperwork signed off by a LCpl, LCpl rear end in a top hat to be specific.

That motherfucker hid that poo poo for an inspection nearly 10 years prior and then comes back as a loving inspector and hits our shop on the exact same poo poo he put up there. :argh:

Just FYI - the M16 / M4 uppers may be serialized for inventory control but the lower is something you definitely need to secure ASAP. Under federal law, the lower of an M4 is the part that is considered a machinegun and unauthorized possession of any NFA restricted item (machine guns, short barreled shotguns, silencers, etc) can be hit with fines up to $250,000 and 10 years in federal prison. That lower may have been combat lossed or otherwise "disappeared" from inventory but getting caught with it under your possession without accountability is a great way to go to DB.

EDIT: The unsecured lower is something that can and will get CID & MPs (not to mention the BATFE) involved if it shows up after being "lost"

also wtf blood chits are serialized?

I am a fudd and will leave that unedited for humiliation. I meant M2, the trigger block at the back that you can remove or whatnot. I may have armorer duties but dear lord I am not an armorer. But yeah anything that really should be accounted for and SI, I am just going to inform 1SG/Supply of and figure out where to go from there.

If it was a grease gun, there would have been a tragic boating accident.

Also let me add to my list of retardation and realize that after discussing with a buddy that it isn't actually real lowers. Its just the handgrip/trigger/selector for them which explains no serial and W------ and I guess they are used for training aid?

I genuinely hope he means there are just trigger housing groups, grips, and selectors there without the lower itself.

Because the alternative is almost certainly going to result in a pretty insane NCIS/BATF/FBI investigation and someone is going down harrdddd.

All CIKs are serialized, that don't mean nothing.

I would have no idea what to do in this situation other than to keep it in a box in the corner and hope it's forgotten about again because the implications are not good.

I would be throwing myself on the mercy of whoever I reported it to and be completely honest because holy poo poo I don't wanna be the guy who got nailed because he had boxes of felonious poo poo.

Air Force as well. Our supply people flipped out when we asked why the gently caress we had an uninventoried STU-3 in our tactics shop in like 2010. I don't even know how the thing works, if it has a crypto card like the STE or what, but we didn't have any of that. Just the phone. It was a Serious Problem.

My medical reserve unit during draw down inventories in the mid 90's had records for crypto gear; KG-xx, KYK-xx etc, in which no one could find where they where at.

I made the mistake of opening a unsecured trailer parked next to a building.

Shoved all the way into back was the missing cypto gear, and a bunch of commo stuff (Teletypes, Switchboards) that had disappeared.
