I'm not sure how to take that ending at all. I've seen it before, the last few chapters, but actually reading it in a language I understand is completely different. I need to come back to that ending in a couple of days.

And for some reason I really didn't expect Toshi to be killed.

Finally reading Me and the Devil Blues after people kept mentionning it around here. Man, this is great! Robert Johnson hanging out with Clyde Barrow during the great depression. Too bad it was cancelled. :(

Didn't the author get permission to continue it after throwing things in their face with Prison School?

Pretty much every manga artist has to draw porn at some point in their career, but this guy kept doing it so I guess he really just wants to make lovely porn forever.

A lot of them get their start drawing porn because there is a huge market for porn comics. I have no idea how the money compares to regular manga, though.

That's cool. I finished what is out so far, while listening to Eric Clapton's Me and Mr Johnson album of Robert Johnson covers.

Yeah I heard the same as explanation as why he passed from one to the other, but later I saw his previous work before to Devil Blues was an ecchi series. So who knows.

It's one of those rumors that's easy to believe, and you kinda want it to be true after reading Devil Blues, because holy poo poo it was so good. I've never had a manga exceed my expectations so much.

Has anyone read Tenkuu Shinpan? I saw that it's apparently written made by the guy who originally started Ajin, which was promising but turned to poo poo because of the writer switch. Don't really feel like getting into it if it's garbage though.

I mean, I say gross from the perspective that it just seemed like seinen interpreted as pantyshots and gore.

Dorohedoro is totally worth it. The story doesn't make much sense to me, but the art is fantastic and its fun seeing what these characters will do next. Also at some point, the artist starts putting notes at the end of every chapter about what we learned this chapter, and those are all amazing.

Dorohedoro starts confusing as all balls but after a few chapters gives you enough background so you can find your feet. The characters are all crazy and fantastic.

Very much worth it. Very good art, entertaining characters, and an interesting (if a bit confusing) story.

Yeah Dorohedoro's story is borderline nonsense, but the world, characters, and action are so unique, dingy and brutal that it keeps you coming back for more. The entire main cast is really fantastic, it's not just the Kaiman Power Hour all day every day. The side stories that happen every so often as extra chapters are always hilarious, too.

The amount of gore and violence is nigh-unparalleled, like I don't know if there's a single chapter where there's not at least one person being decapitated, chopped into little pieces, having mushrooms erupting from them, disembowelments, etc, but somehow it starts to become just an acceptable part of the world of Dorohedoro.

Dorohedoro's plot actually makes sense if you manage to totally put yourself into the mindset of the world they live in and all its bizarre rules about magic and what have you. The only thing that I ever found confusing was the whole deal with Kaiman and his multiple personalities being related to him having all those heads.

That's probably my favorite part of the story. You see all these kind-of-but-not-Kaiman guys and you're wondering what the gently caress is up with that, and then you find out what's up with that and it's crazier than anything you could think of.

I posted about this in the shoujo/josei thread, but because its plot feels kind of like a seinen I'll also mention it here; "7 Seeds" is a pretty awesome manga. It has art that feels super 90's shoujo (which I'm not a huge fan of), but the plot and characters are amazing. It took me a few chapters to get into it, but I ended up getting hooked. It really picks up once the other teams start being introduced.

The general premise is that the human race has been wiped out by a meteorite(s) and one of the programs the Japanese government did in preparation was to create 5 teams of 7 people each, cryogenically freeze them, and awaken them after the Earth becomes habitable again. The story develops the characters of pretty much all of the members and you become really invested in what happens to them. It treats a number of pretty heavy topics in a mature manner and is just pretty great all around.

It is probably going to be "it was all a test to find the right person" ending, which is fine. The author had run out of steam and this last game has been totally uninteresting (and awful) so I'm ok with it ending.

As much as I despise the DID trope, we have two more story elements supporting that theory now. I feel like at this point it's pretty much locked in, with the only possible alternative explanation being Isao's consciousness truly "melting" into Mari and merging with her, slowly inheriting her memories and mannerisms. Her masturbation scene is the only reason I even consider this a possibility, but it seems like a stretch.

Anyway... the obvious element supporting the DID theory is the cliff-hanger, with Mari telling Yori something that Isao didn't know.

But in my opinion the most telling one was Mari applying makeup. Doing it properly and quickly is not something Isao would've been able to pull off without guidance. It's not just a muscle memory thing.

I liked this chapter quite a bit though. It had very little padding, with no more than a couple of pages dedicated to framing the events emotionally. As much as I admire Oshimi's talent in letting the characters speak through subtle expressions, I thought he had been seriously overdoing it for the last ten chapters or so.
