I'm curious as to why you chose Prowler to be Spider-Man in that universe. It was a neat little twist.
Reading David Brothers' writing on race in comics has given me the default position of "why should this character be white?" when I make up stories or characters, which made me look around at other identities for Spider-Man when I was coming up with the story. My dad had boxes of old comics from the 70s, and Hobie Brown's first appearance was one of them (which is the extent of my knowledge of him). I always liked him- he was smart, pissed off and kept down, and he wasn't afraid to do something about it.
I would like to have Hobie-138 meet Hobie-616, actually.

When, relative to the overall event, did you get to define Hobie as Spider-Punk/Anarchic Spider-Man? Looking at the main books, it seems like Slott was assuming he was British (he used the word 'quid' and his costume seems vaguely like Spider-UK).

I would have written the script around the end of September I think? I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that the Spider-Punk design was originally going to be Spider UK, so that may be where that came from.

edit: It would have been before he was called "Brown" and ID'd as being from Earth-138 in the main title, as those were my contributions.

Has Rick Remender told you how jealous he is that you got to do Spider Punk? Seems like it would've been right up his alley.

616 Hobie Brown could use a fire lit under his rear end. I got his first appearence (Amazing #78) when I was a kid, and always wondered why they never made a bigger deal out of the Spawn looking guy.

Hobie has at times been Peter's go-to gadget guy when he didn't have a good relationship with the Avengers or when Conners was off being a Lizard. But geez I don't think Hobie has even had an on-panel appearance since Fraction's Punisher, where Puma and Spidey escorted Hobie out of the Bar With No Name before Castle blew it the gently caress up.

...and then like, three weeks later in Slott's She-Hulk, he retconned the whole thing into no criminals dying but they all got third degree burns.

Anarchic Spider-Man was amazing. I loved it and the reveal of Hobbie was even better. Now I'm gonna be upset when Slott kills him later. I liked Anansi as well.

Spanish is my native language and it was very weird to read that Aracnido story; the dialogue was very very clunky and unnatural. It felt like an actual translation of the English script instead of a comic written in Spanish.

Hobie was pretty great when he was doing the "tech guy" thing. He built the Hornet suit for Peter and was fixing street level hero's gear. I'm surprised he hasn't ended up in Mighty Avengers.

See that's weird, because the english version reads like a bad translation of a comic written in Spanish.

It was probably written by someone who mostly writes in English but knows Spanish, trying to make a script that would make sense in both languages.

That was the part that made me really confused. The only thing I can think of is that the writer thought of it in English and wrote it in Spanish and then Marvel translated it? Or the dialogue's just clunky as hell.

The dialogue and the story being pretty clunky sucks because the art style and atmosphere were spot-on.
And maybe I missed something, but the story didn't quite add up, Spidey's uncle ben was a luchador betrayed by scorpion > ???? > Spidey's a hero two years later saving someone's daughter from narcos that are pals with Peņa Nieto

In that case it's a native Spanish writer required to submit an English script, and either he just under wrote, or they hilariously published a translation of his English script translated into Spanish instead of his original Spanish one.

Or they were working on a tight schedule and whatever language it was originally written in, it wasn't very good.

On another note, is there any kind of comic in the vein of Marvel Adventures Spidey or Mary Jane Loves Spider-man that's knocking about lately? The whole Doc Ock thing mostly left me confused so I never followed that line of events and now I'm not seeing much of a reason to jump back on.

And Die Laughing, watch NXT, the tag champs right now are Lucha Dragons, which is a different guy wearing the Sin Cara outfit and then Kalisto, who is basically the second coming of Rey.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed Slott's stories in Spiderverse. It was almost like having the old Dan Slott back.

Spider-Punk was great, as everyone has said. Mexican Spider-Man was meh and I hated that costume. Oddly enough, it looked great on his father when it was just a mask and tights. Adding the shirt to it made it way too busy.

Scarlet Spiders #3 Preview.

Looks like Ben came out on top in Dying Wish. Interesting. I mean I know they hinted he'd gone through some of the same stuff 616 Peter did since he took over with the stealth suit thing, but weird to get that much confirmation.

Between that and SpOck apparently the only Superior Spider-Man in the multiverse, does that mean every other Otto that tried that plan failed?

I fear he's not going to last long.

One last tangent on Sin Cara, but he was a huge rear end in a top hat. He pulled a gun and threatened Alberto Del Rio when they were still in Mexico because Mistico was the "Big Shot" (and why Del Rio always beat the piss out of him), he refused to learn english, and he refused to go through development. No one had a single good thing to say about Sin Cara when he was in the WWE.

Sin Cara 2 is really cool though, I've met him at indy shows.

Also, here's a preview for Spider-Verse Team-Up #3.

Interesting that Deflaco & Frenz are not only using the narration captions Slott did (which they themselves called out as wrong), they have her calling her brother 'Benny'. I'm guessing those mistakes are deliberate, since it makes no sense for them to point out a mistake and then make it themselves.

Also, on a more positive note: Spider-Ma'am. :allears:

I just realized that I think Kaine's a dead clone walking. His whole status on what being the Other means is really vague, that picture of him going full spider is ominous, and now that New Warriors is canceled, he doesn't have a series to go back to to justify keeping him alive. He's not immune from death and killing the Other seems like just the kind of "big deal last page cliffhanger" things this event has been full of. :ohdear:

Years ago I took a Latin American History class and there was actually a small section we covered on masked luchadore figures operating as sort of social activists and took on a 'real world' superhero status to an extent. I think part of a video we watched on the subject included a segment of one or two being part of a protest.

I'm not sure how big a thing it is/was in reality, though.

Yeah, Kaine dies to save alt-Ben, confirming that he's a proper hero and not a bad person and living up to his Ben's example, character arc finished. Either Ben or Kaine are taking one for the team, and I'm feeling like it's everyone's favorite acerbic clone hero.

Is real, luchadores were BIG here on the 70's and 80's. So far there hasn't been anyone that gets closer to the popularity and influence el Santo had (Mistico was the closer and we all know how that ended) but there's certain spikes here and there.
