Especially when their Facebook page was flooded with "you guys ripped off DRI" and they kept responding with things like "I don't know who this DRI is but they probably ripped us off."

They had all sorts of people getting really mad. One of the former DRI roadies challenged them to a fight over it:

Then they got Bolt Thrower's page merged with Alan West's:

That may really be the same Alan West that sung for Bolt Thrower although I'm not sure.

They did a thing last year with sending everyone posters that were hand signed instead they signed them all 1/500 or whatever. Everyone, including me, rushed to post on their wall about it, not seeing others posting. Once it got to be too much they were like YEAH WE hosed YA!

Also I liked Unsung Heroes, I don't understand what's everyone's beef with it.

Here's a semi-new song by my band which I just uploaded. It's a bit of a "lost track" because the hard disk that we recorded it on imploded. All we have left is his half-mixed version (backups are cool). On the other hand, I kind of feel like the rough sound fits the song.

Some days we want to be Judas Priest, others AC/DC or Accept. This day we wanted to be Sabbath.

New Desolate Shrine is a good start for death metal in 2015. Ghoulgotha and Crypt Sermon albums are also up. Crypt Sermon is apparently Candlemass-y doom, but I haven't listened yet. Dark Descent releases are usually pretty good, worth checking if you're looking for new things to listen to: https://darkdescentrecords.bandcamp.com/

e: Crypt Sermon is actually preorder only right now.

Probably not, like good buddy HoS said, they were probably just trying to look/sound metal. You just need to look at some of Death's later lyrics (basically anything after SBG) that Chuck wasn't just some dumb meathead and I'd find it hard to believe with everything I've ever heard about him that he had any problem with gay people

Up until the early 90s when sexual re-education and awareness became a huge deal in MTV pop culture, it was a totally different climate for homophobia. People got away with all kinds of vile gaybashing poo poo and nobody cared because gays were scary in the 80s and would take your children. This is the era that had Sebastian Bach wear a shirt with the Raid bugspray logo that said "AIDS: Kills Fags Dead" in public and he didn't get poo poo for it until years later. So it wouldn't surprise me if it was a little of both: Chuck trying to sound metal, and also going along with the zeitgeist.

Nah he got a ton of poo poo for it at the time. It happened right when famous, non-gay people started dropping dead from AIDS so regular idiots pretended to care.

Wormed are the best band. I'm fairly sure Phlegethon's lyrics aren't just technobabble and he actually knows the theoretical physics stuff that's mentioned, but it gets butchered due to Engrish and vocal rhythms messing with the comprehensibility.

I like the concept behind the band's material, which is explained on their website. Basically it's about a future where data is uploaded to people in cryosleep so they can serve as supercomputers for directing collective human behavior. Something goes wrong, the main character Krighsu awakens from cryosleep, and he escapes the destruction of the universe to attempt to recreate humanity using the data stored in his brain. It's all very :catdrugs: but I love it when bands go all-out on concept like that, especially when their sound reflects their aesthetic and narrative.

Exodromos was my second favorite metal album of 2013, next to Colored Sands :shobon: I have a huge predisposition towards space/sci-fi themed stuff, and Wormed nail that vibe absolutely perfectly. I also love the oddly emotional bits of melody that show up on tracks like Tautochrone (at 1:20 or so) and Xenoverse Discharger. They have a weirdly positive feeling, sort of like something Mithras or Lykathea Aflame would do.

Wouldn't machines be better supercomputers than lovely human brains? It's kind of the same problem as The Matrix. You could get more power out of yeast than human beings. And you wouldn't need to create the lovely artificial world either.

As a whole, there are very few BDM albums I can actually get into. Lame barnyard vocals, monotonous chugging riffs, that annoying ping-y snare sound and while not music-related, too many guys in baggy pants and cross-armed poses.

I do like Suffocation (nothing post Cerrito leaving, though), Internal Bleeding's demos and some Sepsism. I'd love to find more (non-slam) BDM to get into but there's a truckload of crap in this sub-genre in my opinion.

Suffocation's style of abstract/ dissonant brutal death metal is really cool, and not enough people attempt it. Honestly I see Wormed's sound on Planisphaerium as pretty close to Pierced From Within (only chopped up and reassembled in seemingly illogical ways), so it bugs me when people say they like Suffocation but can't stand other, pretty similar, brutal DM bands. But I should probably stop defending a band I'm an annoying fanboy of, and start actually discussing brutal DM. As for other bands like Suffocation: Try Deeds of Flesh, Posthumous Blasphemer, Abysmal Torment, and Cyclonus.
