This one time when I played, I found a bunch of people roleplaying some trial was gonna happen and people were roleplaying they were news reporters. The guy like did some kind of murder, so having just completed a mission myself in the city. I started yelling "I just went in to that office building and killed everyone". I got some angry tells so I left. Roleplaying in the game was lame as hell, that's how you know there's nothing to do in a game, if the playerbase had to make a story.

Then newbie island happened and God only knows what they were thinking.

How about when an ARK (GM) would teleport to you within a few minutes of you creating a character just to ask if you needed any help? The game has a steep learning curve, but this alone made it refreshing to a new player.

I loved the Backyards!

For the most part I avoid the Shadowlands now, and never enjoyed them. Access quests and long runs across wide open land just got boring.

The story may have gone to poo poo, but there was a time when it was amazing! Some of the high ranking officers would be in game and lead a protest, or maybe some mining accident would be in the news, so people would choose sides and fight for their sides stance. So many games today are just MMO's but Anarchy Online was truely a MMORPG, and it was amazing for it.

I remember one time a member of an alliance went missing, and we spent a week solving what happened. Come to find out that the player switched to OT from clan and they turned it into this amazing event.

I still remember the jazzy-y music playing right after I left the holo zone. It was awesome. And free instanced player housing was a good idea, even though it was buggy and didn't have much purpose.

Of course I somehow lost the key I was given and had no way to get another, so gently caress that.

Even right after launch, there were GM roleplay events. You really don't see that in MMOs today.

But then again, the client would puke if more than two dozen players were clustered in one place. Sigh.

Well, launch is an entirely different thing :) The fact that they survived that poo poo storm at all is remarkable... The game ran like absolute crap! And remember that team missions didn't exist back then either and you had to clone keys to allow a team into a mission.

I didn't realise they merged all the servers into one. I was expecting a ghost town but there's people milling about in a regular basis. I'm still utterly clueless.

Is 100m credits a lot? I seem to have that amount and doesn't strike me as something a level 71 would have earned.

It's a good chunk. Not a "huge" amount, but it'll get you a nice bunch of decent mid level items. You're 71 MA? Could check what price predator set goes for nowadays. Was a few mil a piece when I last played. Except the sleeves, those were like 20m each.

I don't know at all what weapon a MA of your level would use so can't recommend anything there.

e: Prices definitely seem inflated... again. Checked and predator was about 10-11m a piece. (except arms)

What a coincidence that I had made an Atrox doctor a few days ago! But I got stuck on newbie island's quests since I don't remember the most efficient path and I lost all will to relapse and just downloaded SWTOR instead.

I want to get back in, but I have this nagging feeling in the back of my head that 1) being a froob in a two-digit population wouldn't be any fun, and I don't want to sub again because 2) the whole thing is probably going come offline at any second.

Server seems fairly busy and the AOfroob forum has activity so I guess there are some froobs around. I doubt the server will shut down anytime soon. Dev's are far more active posting about updates on the official forums then I thought they would.

I was waffling between doc and mp also. Though I made the character mostly to dual box with fixer. Superior healing and UBT of a doc ended up winning that contest, even though it'll be more arsey to level up. I'll always have a pocket to heal him so I can mainly just skip all nanos and raise weapon skills for now.

If I didn't have fixer to duo with, I'd have gone with mp for the pets.

Regarding AO resources;

Auno has not been updated in 2.5 years and most likely won't be. But it's up and a good place to look up stuff.
Xyphos has died. Think the guy who owned the domain didn't want to keep it up any more or whatever, anyways, it's gone.
AO-Universe is still being worked on. Great site for looking up info on pretty much everything, especially quests, dungeons and such.
AODB is older site. I've not used it much but it has varying information on things.
AOItems is new to me. Seems a sort of replacement for Xyphos. Has a good formatting for nanos, is now my favorite nano browsing site.

I wouldn't put overly much weight on the guides on official forums any more. The forums are half-dead and most guides seem to be from a decade ago. Still, useful tidbits here and there. Can always get some basics from a guide even if it's older, just don't believe in anything regarding high end content that they might say.

e:
In other news, came across this thread about UBT and apparently Funcom is making GBS threads all over it in next patch. Welp. Gonna drop the new doc and roll an MP after all. Figures that they decide to wait 13 years or something with UBT nerf and do it right after I finally start a doc.

High end RK nanos are always something that ought to sell since people roll alts and they are castable at relatively low level. QL 200 NCUs and hardcore CPU upgrades are something that will always sell. QL 160 NCU belts (lowest 6 slot). Those are the only things I can think of.

Making basic armor by doing social clothing quests might still be an okay way for a froob to make some cash. They're used in crafting AI armors. Unfortunately the reason you can make money doing them is that the quests are really tediously boring and repetitive and terrible. You'll want to kill yourself.

Tai
Mar 8, 2006
I'm 72 so I take it QL 200 NCU's and160 NCU belts aren't going to appear on terminals for me.

Which particular nanos are worth it or just anything with a high QL?

Tai posted:

The highest and bestest RK version. Using Enf as example: https://aoitems.com/nano/prof/enforcer/

If you check out some QL's of their top RK nano lines;
Behemoth 152
Infernal Rage 139
Behe Challenger 149
Coruscating Screen 149
etc...

I can't remember exact QL range you need to have when rolling but if memory serves, it's +-10 QL for nanos. So you could roll a QL 129 mission to get Infernal Rage to pop up as reward. Then you just fill a long list into CS or whatever of the various top nanos you want and go fishing. A dedicated entrepreneurial person might blitz full nano sets and sell them as profession packs. Who knows, might rip off a little more money that way.

But I dunno for MA really. Blitzing with a character that cannot self-grid or even better, fgrid... I'd put this method of making money firmly into the "Want to kill myself" category. Ymmv :v:

Wonder how farming RK dynacamps is these days? Might be some sellable things there and it's actually not so horribly boring and bad.

Tai
Mar 8, 2006
Your also forgetting that I'm not twinked and from what I remember, MA's aren't exactly powerhouses when it comes to smashing through missions much higher then their level.

I went looking for something called 800x800 in lush something but it wasn't there

Yeah, but you're only running through them, not fighting anything. Pathing and npc AI in general in AO are so terrible that it's a non-issue. As long as no one lands a root or snare, that's panic time then. And spam of those antisnare first aid things combined with prayers.

Changed my mind yet again, new alt is gonna be a Keeper. The auras would be a nice boost to fixers survivability and Keepers are a extremely passive and boring class so I can basically turn autoattack on and forget it when dual boxing.

Yeah, pretty much.

By the way, couple things to add to any blitz list: http://auno.org/ao/db.php?cmd=search&name=nano-charged&pagesize=1000

Nano-charged rifle and assault rifle. They're used to make perennium weapons and are probably worth selling, check the market terminal first to verify that. I think they'd sell though. Big bonus if you can get an appealing QL like 125, 150 or something. Even bigger bonus for 200.
