What the gently caress there was a Jarhead 2? Jarhead was a pretty good movie, and a loving incredible book. I went through a war-books phase for a while and read a shitload of stuff that I would probably never touch again, but I re-read Jarhead a handful of times over the past few years.

PaintVagrant posted:I agree that old hondas are best hondas, as far as lego-esque ease of working on them. But I cant complain about my 08 civic (other than dbw ugh) and 2004 accord. K and R engines both, both are basically unbreakable tanks that cost pennies to maintain. The 08 civic is especially a fantastic handling little car for being a beigemobile/econobox. The R series was prone to the engine blocks cracking, mostly in 06-08 models. Sometimes you just notice it's leaking coolant, sometimes it cracks wide open while driving and you're left on the side of the road. The R was not one of Honda's finest engines. The K series is fantastic though. ExplodingSims posted:Congrats! I've been looking into starting a Roth IRA for a few weeks now. No arguments about the r series block flaws, although mine is stil under full replacement warranty for another year I think. At 130k I'm way past the typical window for the block issues thankfully. It's a shame people had to deal with that and it certainly ruins the rep of that gen of civic, which is understandable. If I was buying another 8th gen non-si if get a 2010/11, they have the cooler front bumper and don't randomly go boom.

^^^^ congrats!!meatpimp posted:is it heretical to say that a lot of the contemporary series have as high a production value as film, but with the extreme length (in relation to a 2 hour movie), they actually do a better job of in-depth storytelling? Naaah, that's completely fair. It has a lot to do with audience involvement and time constraints though. I think even on some shows, especially on HBO the production value and budget is even more so than a typical 2 hour movie. Then again minute for minute, Hollywood movies still have them beat. There's only so long the typicsl person will sit still and be interested. I'm also guilty of that, I will only sit through 2-3 episodes of a show on Netflix before doing something else. keykey fucked around with this message at 07:47 on Jan 18, 2015 |

When I work a full opening shift at work - which is generally 11-7:30 (or whenever the dinner rush starts to die down), I get a break, usually somewhere between 2-3:30. It's a paid 30 minute break if I stay on the property, or unpaid ~30-60 (usually my discretion, since it's usually still slow when I get back) if I decide to leave. I hadn't washed the Saturn in well over a month, and it was a beautiful day. Took it to my favorite car wash - it's a tunnel wash (yeah I know meatpimp, you're already cringing, but it's a silver econobox that really doesn't even show dirt, much less most scratches), with self-service vacuums/trash before you get to the cashier. I pull into the only empty vacuum bay, empty out all the trash, start vacuuming, and the car to my right backs out. Then I hear a familiar voice say "About time you washed that thing!". Turn around... it's the owner of the store I work at, grinning. He was vacuuming out his SUV. Told him "yeah, it's been drat near 2 months.. usually I wash it at least every 2 weeks, this is the first really nice day we've had in awhile though". We BS a little bit, I get back to cleaning out my car. I get in line to get my car washed.. when I get to the cashier, the store owner (my boss's boss) walks up and tells the cashier my money is no good, and pays for the wash. I usually go for their $15 (top of the line) wash every couple of months, with the lower end washes to keep it looking decent until the cheap spray-on wax and technicolor "clear coat protectant" wear off. He flinched at little when he saw I was going for the good poo poo, but kept insisting on paying for it, against my objections. I finally got him to agree to pay for half instead of all of it. Pretty nice of him. I guess my nose has been a bit brown lately, he seems to talk to me more than any non-manager in the store.
