1 hp ~= 2,544 BTU/hr

2003 LR Discovery II Engine Power = 217 hp

217 hp ~= 552,142 BTU/hr ~= 153.37 BTU/sec

1 gallon pump gas ~= 125,000 BTU

2003 LR Discovery II fuel capacity = 24.6 gallons

24.6 gallons pump gas ~= 3,075,000 BTU

Assuming a fuel tank explosion timeframe of one second (I can't find any data on this in the ten seconds I allowed for it), and as long as streetlamp is kind enough to fill up on the way over...

3,075,000 BTU/sec = 11,070,000,000 BTU/hr ~= 4,350,672 hp

Hey streetlamp wanna see your Landy's horsepower increase 20,000 times over for exactly one second?

Yes you do. My (admittedly either redneck or ricer) car buddies think I'm weird for my irrational love for turbocharged five-cylinders. They also think I'm an idiot for the two BMWs I've had, which were honestly horrible examples. Not doing the German fans proud out here in RVA.

I drank the four pack of Flanders Red in short order. Very tasty, quite sour. Also a good bit cheaper, since it's not imported.

The Aus one was the Isuzu 4BD1 in the Series III and then the coily 110/120 Landrovers. Massive powerhouse engine that, 3.9L of 4cyl NA fury- all of 78kw and 207nm of torque. The 6x6 Perentie the Aus Army developed used the 4BD1-T which bolted a turbo to the same engine, that coughed out 100kw and 330nm.

Probably the pick of the engines in the Aus landies is the TD5- 2.5L 5cyl turbo diesel that still only made 122hp, but used it well.

NitroSpazzz posted:

The engine is leaking oil and running slightly rough, as well as some :banjo: wiring issues. Heat in the cabin sucks, and I can't yet tell if it's a cooling problem or just the heater core. Lastly anything over 55 is harrowing. So step one is to unfuck the PO's "work".

After that I'll probably just enjoy it while I source parts for the manual/4WD swap. I'm in no hurry to get it there and the girlfriend is excited that I finally have an auto for her to drive around, so I'll let her get bored of it first.

I am drat jealous and if I ever need another MJ I am coming down to go MJ hunting. I've never even seen some of that sheetmetal, it just doesn't exist.

The header panel is fortunately an XJ part, you can swap on a complete nose as new as a 96 and it'll bolt right up. If you want to swap only the fiberglass shell and put all your lights and grille and plastics and crap on it the newest you can use is a 90.

Sweet. That looks real clean. Those MJs are all RENIX right? If you don't go the kastein route and tear that whole system out, here's some stuff I did to my RENIX XJ.

Firstly, Cruiser54's RENIX Tips is pretty useful.

Things you should do right off when you have time (most of these are covered in detail in the above guide):

  • When you flush that grody coolant jack the rear end up, remove the gauge temp sensor/sender from the rear of the head and bleed the closed system properly
  • Clean out the stupid C101 connector above the brake booster or remove it entirely as some guys do, there's lots of guides
  • CLEAN EVERY GROUND POINT - batt negative on the block, ground point on the firewall, etc. I think the MJ has a specific ground behind the driver's taillight for the fuel pump/gauge.
  • CLEAN ALL THE CONNECTORS IN THE BAY - just go through and blast them all out with contact cleaner and wirebrush any points you can
  • Add new grounds - the whole RENIX system is poorly grounded. I added a new ground from the neg batt terminal, a new ground from the fuel rail to the firewall, and a new gauge ground under the dash.
  • A set of Bosch 280-155-703 injectors from certain junkyard Dodge/Chryslers did wonders for my idle and general running. Some guys report decent mpg gains too. Get two sets at your junkyard (they only come in 4cyl models), grab this rebuild kit and clean 'em up.

All the ground/connection stuff is a little tedious but you can knock it out in an afternoon and it eliminates a ton of the common issues the RENIX jeeps suffer from. I also gradually replaced my TPS/O2 sensor/IAC/knock sensor/engine temp sensor/most of the gaskets & seals/etc. The thing runs fantastically well.
