Some of the character designs such as Archduke Fire Dragon and his daughter are outstanding. I'd post example pictures of them but apparently there's nothing on google except the garbage designs from the anime which was apparently really bland and bad compared to the manga. i liked the first little bit of maoyuu but when he got to the demon world it was kinda boring because it was a lot of demon king sitting around going  while hero wandered around the demon world doing things that weren't planting potatoes

I'm not good at consistently following ongoing manga, so chances are I won't get through Mayouu until people tell me it's over. What I saw/read was interesting though. Admittedly, the anime tends to get some criticism for its different designs, but I thought its main problem was just a simple lack of time. It's a show about people, but also people dealing with the consequences of technological growth, so I thought the last half dealing with the gulf between the 1st and 3rd worlds was cool, but also I thought all those characters came across as really sympathetic, so the whole situation was heartbreaking. The bit in the epilogue with the dude and the moongirl looking back at earth but she can't see the boundaries was top feels for me.
