Pretty much everything pre-Houdini, but maybe that's just what I like. Eggnog is great, and yeah Bullhead.

Not Prick, that's for sure!!

My first exposure to the Melvins was when Houdini came out, but Ozma and Gluey Porch Treatments would probably be the best places to start. (Gluey Porch Treatments was included as bonus tracks on the original Ozma CD - I think you can buy them separately now)

i'd say start from the beginning. gluey porch treatments + ozma. you can really hear how they influenced everyone with gluey porch treatments, from eyehategod to neurosis to buzzoven, basically all bands who started playing slow, heavy poo poo in the 90s

Cross-posting from the metal thread since I love this thread so much. I hope you don't mind a little shameless self-promotion real quick.

I put together a website for metal tour dates in the US and Canada - www.metaltours.us. I got tired of searching through all sorts of bullshit to find shows coming by me so I made this site. There's no reviews, interviews, top 10 lists, or any of that - just metal tour dates. It auto-publishes the feed to the facebook site and the twitter feed, and I've got a mailing list you can sign up for that I'll use to send out weekly/monthly updates.

Anyways, this page just started off as a personal project of mine that's sort of taken off (hit 666 likes 2 days ago on the fb page, almost at 800 now, and I submitted the link to reddit/r/metal last night and it's getting a lot of good feedback, so I wanted to share with you goons. Right now it's just one guy (me) doing the updates whenever I find them, but I'm hoping this thing can get even bigger and become the go-to place for this stuff. Hope you guys like it!

Same here, and now I'm figuring out which shows I can make it to. I'm also now trying to convince my partner that she'd be "totally into" the bands supporting Contortionist (because they're an easy sell for a few friends and I think they're pretty great)

It's so good. Exactly as crushing as "Thou/The Body collaboration" implies, they complement each other well. And Terrible Lie was a pleasant surprise, but yeah I just heard it separately on some music magazine site.

you guys should really listen to their self titled. massive loving riffs and real nice vocal melodies. it's not as sugary or noodly as torche, there's a raw edge to it. i was a bit dissapointed with the new albums sound, it was really polished and a bit soulless.
