New games suck because devs stopped pushing boundaries around 2007ish when COD4 proved you can make a fuckton of money by just rehashing the Quake 3 engine over and over again. Starsiege Tribes has more complexity, depth, and a higher match player count than Battlefield 4 for fucks sake and that came out in 1998... Cae and point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECp7FPwV1nc poo poo graphics, really basic gameplay, but it looks fun as gently caress to play. Why? It's never been done before, and there's just so much random chaos going on that it's spectacular.

Some new games are good but most of them loving blow. You could replace the word "new" with any chronological reference and that sentence would still be true. Most games have always sucked, do suck, and always will suck. It's always been about finding the gems in a sea of turds.

My biggest gripe at the moment is the absolute influx of lovely survival games. Even worse when they combine Zombies because those are an interesting new idea. Just about my favorite of all of them is The Long Dark because you aren't constantly fighting off waves of lovely enemies and just have to not freeze or starve to death.

Uncle at Nintendo posted:Video games and music definitely got worse tho I think video game badness just got enhanced with the technological leaps. Even in the early days you could see this; Roberta Williams' insanity was always there, but definitely way more pronounced in future games which allowed for more text, actual actors and poo poo like that. I'm also pretty sure there'd have been dumb bullshit like a tutorial box every time you got a rupee out of a treasure chest back in A Link To The Past if the SNES cartridge size at the time allowed for it. Games were better when the cartridges weren't big enough to have things like "a story" or "writing", and the only thing you could have in your game was...well, game.

I do a lot less gaming on consoles these days but I still play a shitload of PC games. Better prices, a lot of variety, I can pick and choose what I use for input, etc. I don't make as many impulse purchases in console land after getting burned several times, on the PC even if I'm a moron who preorders something its often $35-40 versus paying $60+. I ran a long HDMI cable so I can play it like a console or just sit at the PC too which is nice. Another beef I have is that the digital pricing for many titles on the consoles takes way too long to come down, I often just get the PC port down the road instead. Finally, I find that many genres I enjoyed growing up aren't as well represented these days. I get that companies really want mass market success but I feel like its left several genres under represented. I don't think the fans necessarily went anywhere either but the revenue derived from them couldn't compete with the crazy growth in costs for making games. There have been some good Kickstarter games though which gives me some hope for stuff that the AAA industry can't or won't make.

It's called anhedonia and it means you are severely hosed up OP. Smoking weed or drinking while gaming might help cloud your awareness that immersing yourself in video games is no longer a pleasurable activity; many people find this an acceptable compromise. Best of luck.

Video games are insanely awesome and I appreciate the absurd comfort and security of my own life where I get to waste time playing them instead of, say, dying from a preventable illness or churning butter or whatever my ancestors did. And the way I see it, things are only getting better because more cool games come out every year, AND the old ones never go away, either. You can play them whenever you want! In conclusion, games are really good, and I recommend all of them wholeheartedly.

Oblivion turned every single enemy into hp sponges as an overreaction to making all your swings hit. Every loving fight takes way too goddamn long, no matter your level (actually even longer the higher level you are thanks to the Worst Leveling Ever In A Videogame). In Morrowind you could actually do something about the bad combat to make it less bad as well, like using magic, or fortifying agility, or just making sure you weren't low on fatigue when you were fighting. In Oblivion there is jack and poo poo you can do to make the combat less of a slog, you are stuck with it the whole time. It's pathetic and the only people who could possibly think it was a step up from Morrowind are people too thick to build a character that didn't suck poo poo. a messed up horse posted:I worked around the hosed-up levelling system in Oblivion on 360 with custom classes and it wasn't terrible but all I did was play the Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild and Mage's Guild questlines.
