You need premium to watch Mononoke but there's quite a bit of stuff that's up for free users (watch House of Five Leaves it is my favorite show and at the very bottom of the popularity-sorted list  ).

Went to catch up on Reconguista and misclicked, ended up rewatching bits of Turn A. So good. I love how they gave the ending time to breathe.

i did some work and went through the wikipedia articles of the animes that came out in 20XX and now im slowly working that list until i saw em all, the anime i could possibly care for, and more!

i ignored everything before 2000 because of course that stuff is gonna be bad, to me. except maybe now and then, here and there, but idk it looks pretty bad from that one picture ive seen

i also watched, but didnt much care for, all of cowboy bebop

Both are good, though especially the stuff Oshii directed (roughly the first half of the tv series and the first...two movies I think? The important thing is at some point you gotta watch Beautiful Dreamer).

"This god whom I created was human-made and madness, like all gods! Woman she was, and only a poor specimen of woman and ego. But I overcame myself, the sufferer; I carried my own ashes to the mountains; I invented a brighter flame for myself. And behold, then this god fled from me!"
Following goon recommendation hasn't led me wrong so far, so I decided to give Planetes a go. Pretty good so far, the realism really works for the show. I like how it meshes the more comedic slice of life aspects with proper character grounding, when the show gets into their backstories they really feel like they have proper weight. I think it's a good mix, and gives Planetes an excellent sense of melancholy, which works great with the realistic space theme. Only up to episode 10 so far, so I'll see how this goes.

Well since the manga section is now part of a standard premium sub, it's probably worth it just for the simulpubs from that alone. Read it on a tablet or phone with a decent-sized screen though, the app is great while the in-browser version sucks

From what they've got so far, I can recommend:

Inside Mari(from the Flowers of Evil guy, does uncomfortable mentally instable people real well)
Attack on Titan
A Silent Voice(complete)
Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer(complete)
Fort of the Apocalypse
Spirit Circle
Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru(extremely good slice-of-life comedy, has a Yotsuba-esque feel to it at times)

There MIGHT be something worth reading in the Artist's Alley or Comipo sections but I've never really bothered. If anyone has and has suggestions for legit series from there, by all means

If you've run out of things to read manga-wise, I have a thread I made where I make recommendations for good series with rundowns on them. There's a bunch of really good series, so give it a look, you might find something you'll enjoy. If you're in a lovely mood I would recommend something like Yotsuba or Yokohama Shopping Trip, both series are very relaxing and very, very good

You basically have to skip the filler episodes in the middle, I can't remember how many exactly but it was like one entire DVD's worth. Without them TRY is paced a lot better and in some ways I like it more than NEXT overall.

Slayers is like all those fantasy novels I read in high school that I remember fondly and with a lot of nostalgia but can never revisit because they were actually pretty bad.

In the case of Slayers it's more that it has aged really poorly like almost all late 90s anime.

Some of the slayers one-shot movies with Naga the Serpent are still gloriously hilarious. I especially like the dragon army one. Slayers Gorgeous?

Also their drama CDs are the best thing to listen to at work.

Eh, I didn't really have any problems with the first two series, though I didn't mind dropping into a smaller window and doing stuff/playing games while episodes were going on. TRY has always just been a tough nut to crack. Once I'm done with Gundam X I'll give it another shot. Need more old fashioned fantasy anime. Was Scrapped Princess any good?
