Yeah there is no way that is not the comic as intended. It is bad and terrible obviously.

Most republicans self-censor and still consider themselves to be edgy and non-PC(see Sarah Palin's recent "FUC_ (Michael) MOORE" sign at the last right wing conference), so it seems pretty legit to me.

Political Whores posted:The big problem I had with that when I tried to sit through it is that the "human cost of war" theme feels pretty loving hollow when the war in question is one of an unprovoked invasion that has killed hundreds of thousands and totally devastated a country for probably multiple generations to come, led by the people the soldier is fighting for. Tons of war movies exist about the human cost it has on soldiers, and I've always had a a bit of a problem with them too, but something as fresh and as unilateral as the Iraq war being depicted as this horrible but necessary struggle sickens me. Honestly a guy who said himself he viewed the whole conflict through the lens of a crusade didn't have much humanity to lose anyway. That's totally fair and valid. However I think there's plenty of room for a movie which establishes that stupid sheep/sheepdog/wolves protection by violence meme by having Ahab beat up a kid who's beating up his little brother showing his brother signing up for the war because he idolizes Ahab and getting turned into a total emotional wreck by it to be read as providing evidence that no, it's not protecting Americans, it's just getting the people he's got this savior complex for ground up and they wouldn't need saving if it weren't for the war he's obsessed with in the first place, and he doesn't have to turn himself into something totally incapable of being human when he can actually help just fine by working to heal people rather than kill them. I don't think it's at all contradictory to the movie to view it as tearing down the exceptionalist idea that the US is axiomatically the good guys and "protecting" it with foreign wars is good and right because that doesn't work that way and it just erodes any moral high ground and hurts those its intended to protect. But hey, I've already said I'm probably AGMing it.

At least when south park did it, they deliberately made as bland a depiction of Muhammad as possible and inserted the obnoxious censor bar after the network still said no

The image makes sense on its own, and the caption makes sense with a different image (if you accept the GOP line that Robin Hood is a bad guy), but the image combined with the caption makes no sense. Unrelated, looks like the GOP is getting an early start on eating their own this cycle (has McCain said anything that would suggest he would ever run again).

He's doing pretty well, compared.

Nah, McCain has done the standard major-party "welp, I had my candidacy and failed, not trying it again." Romney is actually pretty unusual by saying he'd do it again. I'd be surprised if he manages any decent amount of votes this time since he got himself in as a failure back in 2012. (And then the right "Anyone But Mitt"s itself right back into running him again )

A more accurate, if ambiguous phrasing would be "the soldier died protecting our way of life."

That Breen comic pisses me off. I think I'll use this the next time some "Patriot" throws it at me for not being "Patriotic". In reality I imagine teachers think the pledge of allegiance is stupid too, as I only got poo poo for not doing it from one of them during my time in school.

Hey, I think we're all being a little harsh on this cartoon. Notice how Obama's surrounded by a halo in the dense scribbles? For the first time, that's part of the composition! There's a reason for there to be less background in that part of the scene. Can't say the same for Little "Jobs" John, but hey, progress is progress.
