this_is_hard posted:There's about a million reasons why: actors aren't going to sign away their entire careers to a 15-season long HBO show, budgetary concerns, viewership concerns, actors will outpace their characters ages, etc etc etc. And even aside from all this, the cat is already out of the bag at this point. It might have been worth it to do 2 seasons per book back at the beginning, but all we really have left is a bunch of storylines which already meander around for GRRM's stupid "Mereneese Knot". Sansa, Brienne and Bran are already caught up and a bunch of the other characters have like half a book or less of material left to go. After the breakneck pace of the past 4 seasons, nobody is going to want to watch 3 seasons of Tyrion sailing on a river barge or Dany making GBS threads in a field for an entire season or whatever. They sure as hell don't want Dorne and Iron Islands storylines to supplant the entire show.

I wonder if they're gonna have Varys disappear for most of the season so he can surprise-murder Kevan. I'd much rather have him hanging around with Dany and Tyrion the whole season.

I'm not even sure why.

That trailer has me more excited for this season than any season so far. It's pretty clear from all the fat that trailer indicates they are cutting, and with the show runners stated desire to wrap it all up in season 7, that season 5 marks the beginning of the end game for the series and I could not be happier. We are finally going to get an end of some kind to this story and like other posters have said there is a pretty solid chance GRRM will never finish the books at this rate.

The time between book 4 and 5 was way too long for the amount of plot progression which occurred within them. I doubt many people would complain about all the word building if we were well on our way to the home stretch of the story, but as it stands now we still haven't even gotten Danny off of Essos (after several books mentioning that she is going East to the Shadow before she even gets to Westeros).

The first few seasons I wanted to see how well they'd adapt the story. (And while I've had a few complaints, I can't imagine a better version.) Now I'm in it for the story, since the show is already getting ahead of the books. It's fantastic.

The show is going to end with an explanation that all magic on Planetos is fueled by the energy of war and bloodshed in an alternate universe version of itself - Earth. When Samwell reaches the whitewalker capital, they send him through a portal to Germany to attempt to bring an end to World War 1 and thereby deprive the dragons of their fuel. The next scene is of several years later, 1921, when Sam is exchanging letters with Robert H. Goddard about liquid-fueled rocketry, and planning to one day go into outer space in the hopes of finding a way back home.

Also, it looks like they're going the straight up Grey Worm fucks Missandei route, which seems pretty stupid to me, but it's not someone saying slightly different words than they did in the book so I guess it's fine.

Hi spoiler thread. I decided shortly before Season 4 started last year that I wanted to read the books. My original plan wasn't to read ahead of the show, but after season 4 ended and I read the final chapters of Storm of Swords (John's election & the Stoneheart epilogue), I decided there was no way I was waiting, and as of last night I finished Dance with Dragons for the first time, about 30 minutes before attending one of the IMAX events. I've spent some time now reading through this thread and the big wiki and feel totally inundated with things, but I just want to say I'm excited to join the ranks in this thread. I'm fairly disappointed to read the seemingly accepted rumor that a lot of the Greyjoy story won't be making it in this season; I was really, really looking forward to meeting Euron and Victarion and seeing the Kingsmoot go down.

Yeah, they're responding to the main flaw of Feast/Dance -- "we're replacing all those dead characters you loved with these new ones you don't give a poo poo about" -- by just cutting most of them out, meaning that they're gonna get all caught up with at least some storylines by the end of this season No Greyjoys, no Aegon, no Quentyn, etc

Its more than a rumor, really. They weren't cast, and I think one of the showrunners came out and said , "yeah, we're not gonna do most of the Greyjoy stuff.

The books mention some of the Unsullied going to brothels and just paying women to lie next to them so I don't think it's necessarily a huge departure. They still have some kind of longing for human contact. http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Stalwart_Shield If he does get offed though, darn. Being Dany's guardian is a tough gig. Whatever happened to Kovarro anyways?

Alright, my bad. Lycus posted:People are expressing way too much confusion over this Grey Worm stuff. A person who lost their balls as a child wouldn't have a working penis in adulthood, it's potentially implying a sexual relationship between him and Missandei. From that still above, it almost looks like there's some bruising on Grey Worm's face, and Missandei may very well just be tending to him after an injury, and in the process showing some additional compassion since they've already planted the seed for that relationship existing. I don't think the brief second that we see is enough to assume anything sexual at all and agree, is probably being over-thought.
