No I'm not having that, I won't accept a Mac that makes its point well and isn't utterly reprehensible, just look at the previous one to see how awful he is. Regalingualius posted:...What's the point of that, then? There are some really nasty conditions that can result from mitochondrial problems, so by using donor DNA for them, those can be avoided. It's only about 0.3% of the total genetic makeup or something like that, but some people are acting like the sky is falling, and are also saying that this is a permanent thing that will remain in that family's genetics through the generations, as though the heritability of genes is some sort of huge loving revelation.

Human beings who I don't like are literally rabid animals. Is there some kind of metaphor I'm missing here or is this just dehumanising the enemy, except nobody will care because the enemy are actually pretty terrible?

So I guess his suggestion would be 15-20 years ahead of Hitler coming to power we should have invaded Germany. That would surely stop the evil and not be used as a justification for aggression later.

I wouldn't worry about dehumanizing ISIL. The real and stupid flaw of the comic is complaining about THE MEDIA giving them attention or whatever, because if they got zero airtime it would be LIBERAL MEDIA IGNORES THREAT.

Canada's foreign minister, John Baird, resigned out of the blue. He's 45 and been in politics since he was like 15, so this is a bit of a surprise. He's either going into the private sector to get rich, or going to work for some international organization, nobody quite knows. He kinda sucked anyway, as evidenced by the fact that he named his cat Thatcher. And an old one that was linked on Mackay's site because of our recent big snowfalls in the GTA:

Hm yes, the US totally isn't doing anything about ISIL. You know what, since this talking point obviously will not die for the foreseeable future, have an addendum to my two previous Kobani posts. Back in late October, ISIL briefly took control of Tel Shair hill outside of Kobani. The US coordinated with the Kurds to help them reclaim the hill from ISIL: The US did this by leveling the entire loving hill.

Samurai Sanders posted:Does our military know how to do anything right other than just blowing poo poo up? Semi-seriously: In that specific instance, the Kurds reclaimed Tel Shair hill the next morning, found a nice cache of weapons and ammunition (and dead ISIL fighters), and also got to reclaim the high ground rather than being pinned down by ISIL fighters on top of the hill. So basically, the Kurds are perfectly happy with the US blowing poo poo up and doing hundreds of airstrikes on ISIL, and we're happy to help them out. As you can see in the Kobani map, it's working really well. E: The point is that we are most definitely not ignoring ISIL, and Ramirez prefers to pretend otherwise rather than admit that Obama is successfully fighting against ISIL. fade5 fucked around with this message at 04:24 on Feb 5, 2015 |

Samurai Sanders posted:Does our military know how to do anything right other than just blowing poo poo up? The United States military is so profoundly good at blowing things up that it outmatches its capabilities in almost everything other arena. Iraq's government collapsed so fast after the U.S. invasion that it exceeded all predictions and left policymakers scrambling to fill the void. If you give Americans a conventional target, chances are that they can do it better than anyone. Unfortunately, the U.S. military hasn't figured out what it is supposed to do once it obliterates a target from the map, or how to deal with those caught in the crossfire.
