What kind of setlist do Carcass play these days? All post Heartwork or do they play early songs?

Last year they were playing almost all of Surgical Steel (obviously) , a good number of Heartwork songs, one from Reek of Putrefaction, one or two from Symphonies, Keep Rotting in the Free World, Corporal Jigsore Quandary and Incarnated Solvent Abuse.

That was pretty much exactly what they played here in Detroit, as well.

Keep on Rotting is awesome, but man, my opinion of most of the latter half of this album has cooled significantly in the last couple of years.

Jesus Christ. You know, the worst part is, there's really only 3 possibilities here to explain this:

1)Anselmo buys into that crap.
2)He doesn't but panders to them anyways, which is arguably worse
3)He was REALLY high (best case scenario)

Don't be stupid, it's an actual thing used by neo nazis. They're fully aware that you can't go around saying heil Hitler, so they say 88 instead.

Crucifier is amazing. I saw them play a local bar last year, and I got their last copy of "Coffins Through Time... A Mourning in Nazareth" (for a more-than-fair $20) and talked to Cazz about their history and some of the shows with flyers that made up the insert to the album. Their bassist from their first demo, Chris Miller, was there that night, and they introduced me and I talked to him about his time in the band and his last show, which was opening for Bolt Thrower. By the end of the night, five past/present members of Crucifier had signed that DLP set and told me some stories about the history of the band. It's a very well done release with great artwork, as you'd expect from an IBH release, and having gotten it from the band and talked about their history and perspective on death metal, it's one of my favorite pieces in my collection.

That night I also saw Desolate, who sound absolutely monstrous live. They released two demos in '93 and '94 then split up, but here's a video which gives you an idea of how they now, even in a very live-sounding video.

I've had Grimoire -"L'aorasie des spectres rêveurs" on repeat all week and can't get enough of it. It's a one man band release, atmospheric-black metal from Quebec. It's not the most metal description, but I've it found hugely uplifting. I only wish it was longer. There's an earlier 2011 release that's quite great, too. Reminds me a bit of Petrychor and Agalloch.

Didn't know if I should post it here or the black metal thread, so feel free to cross-post there if someone desires.

And here's a guy's review, but it's 12 minutes so just go listen to the 24 minute EP instead.

If anyone's into Cringecore, the new Nightwish single and b-side leaked. The B-side is a passable pop metal song but the single itself (Elan) is so awful. For all of their issues they used to be able to write catchy songs. Maybe I just don't remember them that well?

edit: They both have a sort of celtic folky vibe. I thought Sagan might be some foreign word meaning peace or some other nonsense but turns out it's the philosopher Carl Sagan since they literally name drop him in the chorus.

You know, I'd have never thought of anyone even making Mass Effect metal, much less it actually being good, but... poo poo man. That's a really good song. I might have to buy their new record, but I'll want to hear more of it first. Also, what's their back catalogue like? I've honestly never even heard of these guys. Do they do other weird nerd poo poo that sounds this good? Because that would really be awesome.

They only formed in the last year or two (they're fronted by Doug Anderson, who used to be drummer for Bloodshot Dawn if you've heard of them), so no back catalogue except for one other song they released (also awesome, if not weird nerd poo poo like the new song):

Hard to say if the Mass Effect inspired song is a one-off or not at this point though.
