Maybe it's just me being calloused from this and other threads, but I'm pretty sure he can just shut up about it sometime soon and survive. People like Brian WIlliams and this isn't going to change most of those peoples' opinions, which is the true secret of surviving scandal.

They need a hero, any current potential hero could screw up in the present, as where Reagan is so firmly in the past you can attribute anything to him and no one will remember. Nothing stuck to him while he was in office, there's no way something can stick to him 30 years later. He was personable, won overwhelmingly, and was President when the cold war ended. There isn't any famous video of him raising taxes or firing the air traffic controllers, but there is video of him facing off against Communists (something about a wall?) and that audio above about being against Obamacare before it was cool.

If Dan Rather was ruined by the Bush Jr. Texas Air National Guard story, Williams is done as far as any credibility goes. He seemed like a cool dude...too bad for him.
