No, personas 1 and 2 are in a different universe-1 is really bad and 2 is really weird because it's a two-part game, 3 occurs before 4 and is within the same universe (in fact, in one sequence of p4 you visit the high school from p3) but besides that section which works by itself removed from the p3 reference they're completely stand alone stories Like nothing in p4 that happens is at all related either overtly or subtly to the events of p3 outside of the big reference sequence

There are some minor references to 3 but nothing essential (mainly a bunch of jokes during a short diversion), and the first two games are only tangentially related to 3 or 4.

The Persona series takes place in the same world but all the stories are mostly separate, they share thematic and mechanical links instead. The only risk of starting with P4 is getting hooked on the series and learning to your dismay that all the others aren't as good. Also Space Dandy is one of the best anime of the last decade (slim competition, I know) and anyone who likes them movin' pictures owes it to themselves to watch it. It's basically what happened after Shinichiro Watanabe (the Cowboy Bebop guy) somehow secured near-unlimited funding and collaborated with all his animation buddies to do whatever the hell they wanted for 26 episodes.

They usually argue that p3 is "darker" and the plot is better because it'a more REAL man, it's more HARDCORE Or they're aigis fans in which case run far and fast away from them I remember one guy tried to argue that the answer was good and it was all I could do to stop laughing at him forever

This thread and the Giantbomb thread are reaching some kind of Persona fueled goon singularity and I'm all for it. I love P4 for similar reasons to why I love Doctor Who. It's goofy fun and serious emotion in the same package with lots of monsters inbetween. It's Twin Peaks mashed up with Scooby Doo mashed up with Pokemon.

Are we still talking about Persona 5? I'm actually kinda worried. It looks kind of like an SMT throwback cuz it's back to fighting demons and having both a gun and a melee weapon. Also it looks like social links might be cut and replaced with something new.

To win, you have to keep calm and do things at a regular interval. If you are sluggish and don't do the things fast enough, or panic and do the things too fast, you lose. In theory, is should be easy. In practice, almost everyone fucks up, which is entertaining to watch. That, and it hit the virtually untapped 'Chuck E Cheese animatronics are creepy because of the uncanny valley' niche.
