Alternatively, it was still the Silver Age when she was a kid and that sort of thing just happens.

It's a holdover from the CCA. It wasn't o.k. to depict harm befalling children, so artists used midgets for standins.

You know, I don't wonder if that first text box is a subtle hint to the artist

"Sometimes he forgets she's just a kid. You know, like the artist has these last few issues. It's a kid - Not a midget. Friendly reminder."

It reminds me of back when Wizard was a thing and they had articles every issue on how to draw comics, and one of the ones I can recall vividly was "Women are NOT men in drag"

God no. I don't even think it's the most homaged panel from that run. (That's either the death of Dark Phoenix or that panel of Wolverine in the sewer below the Hellfire Club)

I can, offhand, think of a lot more parodies of that Jerk panel than the other two. If zoux is referring to just a single interior panel, I agree, it's right up there.

Yeah I can think of some cover homages to the death of Phoneix and I remember Kitty doing "it's my turn now" in AXM(?) but I can think of three or four "...is a jerk" homages. I mean I could be wrong, I'm not nearly as steeped in comics history and lore as most of yall.

For some reason the producers of Teen Titans Go are allowed to use whatever they want from DC. Watchmen jokes, Teddy Bear Bane that is the Nolan movie costume, references to the old Teen Titans cartoon and Batman The Animated Series. Anything.

For comics in general, Spider-Man No More and Amazing Fantasy 15's cover are pretty high up there. As well as that cover from the first Superman book.

It's unrelated to homages, but my favourite part of that cover is that the beast either paused in it's rampage to tie up Mr Fantastic, or he's tied up in the street for unrelated reasons.

If she had been able to turn invisible before the creature grabbed her, she probably could have avoided it.

Maybe it took her several minutes to turn invisible back then.

All the most iconic covers are full of weird unexplained poo poo. Who's the terrified guy Spider-Man is carrying? Why is Superman destroying a car and terrifying everyone? If laser beams and rocket launcher haven't done the trick why does Iceman think that snowballs will - and where the hell is Beast swinging from?
