Citizen Tayne posted:I mean jesus christ, most of our action movie "heroes" are elderly this is a boomer thing The key to understanding the “why now?” of this current trend isn’t just economics and genre atrophy, however. Amongst non-movie-stars, there’s a general societal expectation that when you get older in the work force you should make way for younger generations. Boomers in particular are being pressured to do so. But no one wants to be pushed into obsolescence, especially since life hardly ends at 65. That’s something that will be particularly true for Boomers, a generation probably positioned better than any other previous one to have active post-retirement lives. It’s telling that The Last Stand’s poster tagline is a blatant rejection of what is expected of Boomers right now: “Retirement is for sissies.”

sounds good, who the gently caress do we vote for that we can get the under-40s to more or less agree on i mean we could institute higher minimum wage, higher taxes on wealth and generally a bunch of anti-hoarding economic policy, and more robust social services (i'm not even going to pipe-dream about gmi) but you see then the loving

The most depressing thing to me is how boomers' greed has caused them to defund education because they don't personally use it. Kids are effectively having to pay their own parents for the privilege of learning, when essentially every society on the planet that isn't America has believed for millennia that education is something to be passed down freely from an honored, knowledgeable elder to the new generation.

we need to all vote to eliminate medicare + social security + any other unfunded liabilities. if you are a fan of any of those things you are supporting the boomers.

This is the case of every single system they moved through. Boomer retirements are being paid for by selling their homes to their childrens' generation for many multiples of what they should cost according to CPI.
