A katana was the worst bike I've ever rode, and I've been on a few Buells, so I know what's up. But I've never been on a carbonated katana. Could be interesting.

That is not even worth half the asking price. I imagine putting a BMW roundel on that thing will get you shot in Germany, and rightly so.

Considering I haven't ridden in about 8 years and my first and only bike was an '82 kz440 that I rode for maybe 6 months before it gave up the ghost, I figured it's a decent next step up, and cheap too.

But Not Tonight posted:Considering I haven't ridden in about 8 years and my first and only bike was an '82 kz440 that I rode for maybe 6 months before it gave up the ghost, I figured it's a decent next step up, and cheap too. Honestly, if you can see yourself being happy with the bike a year from now, absolutely go for it. I'm not going to poo poo on the Yamaha V-Star models because I have no experience with them in general and have never heard anyone with a negative experience with one. However, I'll warn you that when you come here to ask for advice, you sound like the kind of person that has a decent head on their shoulders and you're probably going to re-learn how to ride that thing very quickly. The biggest danger here is getting bored with it after one summer, and then you're trying to sell a lower-power cruiser on the market and you might be making the same "throw me a lowball" CL ad this guy did. A 650cc cruiser is a small engine in a pretty large-sized machine, especially when the bike itself is 96.5 inches long. For comparison, the Harley Davidson Fat Boy, a pretty big machine in itself, is 2.2 inches shorter, and my personal favorite, the Ducati Monster 1200, which is already regarded as a long bike for a sports machine, is 86.6 inches, almost a foot shorter. To be honest, that's a lot of heft to be pulled around by a relatively small engine. You're allowed to tell me to gently caress off at this point and I wouldn't blame you, I just want to give you a fair warning that the bike might bore you in less than a summer's time, and you might find yourself in the ad owner's shoes trying to sell the thing off to get a bigger machine. Either way, have fun riding, and watch some No Prisoners videos to scare the gently caress out of yourself and remind you to never speed through an intersection and watch out for assholes making left turns in front of you. Edit: Supermotards are great bikes and the "getting bored" factor is practically nonexistent because Sumos are insanely capable bikes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpHC8HQyKgE

If you're near SoCal, SoCal Supermoto does supermoto classes for $240 that include pictures, riding all loving day, instruction, etc. There is one on Monday - Feb 9th that is $200 because of it being a Monday. Yeah it's cheap enough that even if you do get bored with it, whatever. Show up with 1500 bucks in hundreds, and another 200 bucks or so in twenties in your wallet. Offer the 1500 cash up front, go up the additional 200 if he like, superbalks. A pile of cash does a lot of negotiation for you. You're probably not going to lose much money on a $1500 bike that runs and rides. Check the tire age, consumables, if it's been sitting for awhile might be worth looking at replacing those things.

My 990 is a 2008 but the po put a lot of the same parts into it. I'd rather have the carby though he's right about that. It depends how much money he wants though. I wouldn't pay for the lineage of ownership and actually would pay less for the smaller wheels. I do like the paint, it would be very helpful when pretending to be a world wide Drakkar winner while putting around back roads in Ohio. 04's are the only SV's with silver frames and yellow paint correct? I was about to say I've seen some sexy SV's with black frame and a GSXR front swap but then realized this was silver instead.
