A katana was the worst bike I've ever rode, and I've been on a few Buells, so I know what's up. But I've never been on a carbonated katana. Could be interesting.

It's a 650cc, 40 HP cruiser that runs the quarter mile as fast as a Toyota Camry. If you want a big looking bike, sure, go for it, but keep in mind it's going to be painfully slow.

Considering I haven't ridden in about 8 years and my first and only bike was an '82 kz440 that I rode for maybe 6 months before it gave up the ghost, I figured it's a decent next step up, and cheap too.

Honestly, if you can see yourself being happy with the bike a year from now, absolutely go for it. I'm not going to poo poo on the Yamaha V-Star models because I have no experience with them in general and have never heard anyone with a negative experience with one. However, I'll warn you that when you come here to ask for advice, you sound like the kind of person that has a decent head on their shoulders and you're probably going to re-learn how to ride that thing very quickly. The biggest danger here is getting bored with it after one summer, and then you're trying to sell a lower-power cruiser on the market and you might be making the same "throw me a lowball" CL ad this guy did.

A 650cc cruiser is a small engine in a pretty large-sized machine, especially when the bike itself is 96.5 inches long. For comparison, the Harley Davidson Fat Boy, a pretty big machine in itself, is 2.2 inches shorter, and my personal favorite, the Ducati Monster 1200, which is already regarded as a long bike for a sports machine, is 86.6 inches, almost a foot shorter. To be honest, that's a lot of heft to be pulled around by a relatively small engine.

You're allowed to tell me to gently caress off at this point and I wouldn't blame you, I just want to give you a fair warning that the bike might bore you in less than a summer's time, and you might find yourself in the ad owner's shoes trying to sell the thing off to get a bigger machine. Either way, have fun riding, and watch some No Prisoners videos to scare the gently caress out of yourself and remind you to never speed through an intersection and watch out for assholes making left turns in front of you.

Edit: Supermotards are great bikes and the "getting bored" factor is practically nonexistent because Sumos are insanely capable bikes.

I think the point is Z3n is a space cowboy on the edge of a frontier unknown to man, he's out there pushing the limits, trail braking into the abyss. Finding out where the edge of the razor is, turning to face the darkness and revving his 690 into it's vast gaze. You gotta live this to learn it bro.

Yeah it's cheap enough that even if you do get bored with it, whatever. Show up with 1500 bucks in hundreds, and another 200 bucks or so in twenties in your wallet. Offer the 1500 cash up front, go up the additional 200 if he like, superbalks. A pile of cash does a lot of negotiation for you. You're probably not going to lose much money on a $1500 bike that runs and rides. Check the tire age, consumables, if it's been sitting for awhile might be worth looking at replacing those things.

I know one of you would buy this:

quote:

Reluctantly I am willing to part with my one of a kind KTM Adventure 950 - only 16k miles - lots of custom parts - clean title and famous history.

The bike was owned by legendary bike builder Kenny Dreer (Norton customs), it was his personal bike. He used all his best vendors for the customization, Ted McGallard & Nick Thies for the paint & Mr. Ed's Moto for the seat, the rest is all Kenny's work.

Kenny is my size (under 5'9") and is easy to ride compared to a stock Adv because of the new rims/tire size (19" front/17" rear), rear is a nearly new Michelin Anakee 2, front tire is still good (Pirelli Scorpion). 2004 was the year to own one of these, they are bullet proof and much better than the FI models that came out later on.

Only serious buyers need apply - that means email me your phone number or I will think you are spam.

Custom paint w/Red Bull racing
Custom seat (Mr. Ed's Moto heavy duty leather suede)
FMF exhaust - factory exhausts included
Evoluzione clutch cylinder
Galfer wave brakes
Fedoro brake pads (extra set included)
KTM tank bag
Givi V46 top box w/rack
Heated grips
LED off-road driving lights & aux lights
Krauser panniers
K&L performance air filter
Center stand
Factory brush/hand guards
GPS system - Magellan
3M reflective tape & KTM racing stickers

Original exhaust
Original seat
Original air quality parts
Extra set of Fedoro brake pads

My 990 is a 2008 but the po put a lot of the same parts into it. I'd rather have the carby though he's right about that. It depends how much money he wants though. I wouldn't pay for the lineage of ownership and actually would pay less for the smaller wheels. I do like the paint, it would be very helpful when pretending to be a world wide Drakkar winner while putting around back roads in Ohio.
