On a whim I picked up Andy Stott's "We Stay Together" at the local record store, and omg this is extremely my poo poo. The only thing I can compare this to would be Burial (which I love), but I really like Stott's super simple rhythms. Where else can I find muddy, hypnotic house like this?

All about that bass,
that smooth jazzy bass.
So I recently finished portal 2 and I can't seem to get the turret opera song out of my head, my question is if you guys and gals know of any opera or classical that has the same vibe to it?

Spoilers if you havent played it but: http://youtu.be/eWqnU5lFksA for reference.

Check out Huerco S.

Also a lot of stuff on Opal Tapes, Astro:dynamics, The Trilogy Tapes, L.I.E.S., Proibito, Lobster Theremin et al has that murky outsider house vibe goin on, it's fairly in at the moment.

I just realised that most of my favourite music is sort of down-tempo and introspective (shoegaze, folk, singer songwriters, 90s alt) so I'd like recommendations for fast melodic music with a bit of a twist. Maybe more stuff like Purr by Sonic Youth? I'm not crazy about metal or ska, unfortunately.

I'm looking for hip-hop that explores religious themes similar to Blood of Abraham. I like exploration and use of religious imagery, like Sujan Steven's Seven Swans or some of Leonard Cohen's work but I'm not looking for "Christian rap", if that makes sense. Themes and imagery can be from pretty much any major world religion and it'd be right up my alley.

I think it was a law that NY rappers in the 90's had to be muslim/NOI/5%ers. A lot of that though is gonna be more leaning towards the 5% side of the equation, and much of the earlier stuff (Brand Nubian, X-Clan, etc) is also gonna be heavy on the black nationalism. Also a lot of the mentions are more likely offhand things about not eating pork and more about how their religion works in their lives rather than just making use of imagery or w/e ( outside of the heavy numerology that's in 5% stuff).

Gravediggas second album, a bunch of Jay Electronica (dude doesn't have a proper album, but there's compiled mixtapes of his stuff floating around), and Killah Priest (really a lot of the early Wu affiliates) come to mind. You also got stuff like Alias "Divine Disappointment" and Cryptic One "Intricate Schemes" which work more directly with religious topics, (although if anything I'd say they're more anti-religion). Geto Boys and Scarface I seem to recall using some heavy imagery at times as well, along with Goodie Mob.

I am looking for speedy metal that is somewhat melodic to accompany my workouts. It doesn't have to be growl-free, but some vocal melodies every now and then would be nice. Tonight I discovered Edge of Haze's Illumine after a google search and I like it--so maybe something like that, but maybe more energetic.

How about some melodeath, like Whispered? They don't have vocal melodies per se, but they kinda compensate with melodic guitar leads often accompanying the vocals, like in this song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WNdYVM0rRA

Or, to just take the "speedy, melodic" ball and loving run with it, try some extra-cheesy power metal like Pathfinder:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPjAbyGkEjc

And if that was too flowery for you, there's also plenty of meaner, thrashier speed metal to be had. One of my favourites in this subgenre is Speedtrap.

I like with Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart (which inspired some of the characteristics), and I enjoy Ween, Zappa, The Monks, and older experimental bands. I'd prefer more recent bands.

I especially like Fassbender's deep voice. It reminds me of the Stephin Merritt of the Magnetic Fields. I'd also be interested in other bands with those vocals as well.

I'm going through this album again, except now I'm a better musician and have a way better ear for composition. It's always been one of my favorites but hot gently caress now that I can actually listen and appreciate everything it's like a whole new thing.

I want more electronica albums that are as cohesive as this one--they don't necessarily have to be from people classically trained in music theory but what's really got me crazy about this album at the moment is the compositional craftsmanship--he evolves and resolves melodies across tracks, the energy is smooth, and he uses sounds that are similar enough to give the whole album a really unified, cold, sound while keeping each track distinct.
I guess I'm asking for your favorite 'electronica' albums in terms of craftsmanship and production value? The next closest thing I can think of is Pryda but that doesn't really come close.
I'm not amazing at picking this stuff out so I'll probably be easily impressed.

I have never enjoyed country music, whether it's Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson or Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley, I have just never found it appealing in any way. The closest I get is Neil Young.

However, after listening to the newest Wovenhand album (which I realize is more of a heavy rock record) and seeing them live, and digging "Far From Any Road" by the Handsome Family (the True Detective theme), I think it might be worth exploring the darker side of that genre. Gothic country, I guess it's called (although I see Handsome Family is listed only as alt-country and Americana on RateYourMusic, but to me that's Wilco or My Morning Jacket). Gloomy or apocalyptic atmosphere, eclectic instrumentation, dudes with deep, foreboding voices. Any recommendations in that regard? I know 16 Horsepower is probably a must.

I will also take rock that sounds like the latest Wovenhand.

like the above response, these aren't necessarily country, but lean in that (or a folky) direction a bit and seem to have the right vibe: Palace Music/Bonnie "Prince" Billy/Will Oldham (except the deep voice, this is really who you want), Crooked Fingers, David Pajo/Papa M, maybe Leonard Cohen, Lambchop, or even Dirty Three (despite the lack of lyrics)
