I'm a week behind but the Shadowrun segment of the David Cross episode, and David's character in particular, was loving hilarious.

Yeah, I really loved David Cross on Harmontown. He's struck me as a guy who's "always on," so to speak, but he was very open in the "let's all talk about religion" section and he was amazing for Shadowrun setup. I can't stop humming You Make My Shadow Run. I ordinarily hate internet projects but I would not mind at all if someone turned that into a real 80s song.

God dammit, Kumail, you couldn't even make it to the FIRST Shadowrun session after making your characters? Your live tweets during the Super Bowl were funny, but was it that important that you had to miss Harmontown?

I mean, Id rather Kumail was there too, but I think part of why Shadowrun works well is mercenaries can jump in and out of runs, which kinda frees them up for guests to come and go.

I've just realized that although I love playing fantasy RPGs like Pathfinder, I enjoy listening to fantasy cyberpunk much much more. In the context of this show in particular, I think it's better because everyone has a much better frame of reference for interacting in a dystopian urban landscape.

It's funny, as someone who has played a fair amount of Shadowrun I got a real kick out of it, especially the hilariously-wrong stuff (Dan complaining about lack of nonlethal ranged options when a crazy panoply of such options exist, including the Stick-N-Shock taser ammo that Jeff was using). But! The players were making a half-serious effort to play the game correctly and no one was up on the rules, so the game had a lot fewer punchlines than the D&D game typically did. I figured it would likely have less broad appeal. Glad to learn that at least within the rarified environment of "goons who care enough to post to this thread and aren't Irish Joe" Shadowrun is a hit.

I think Shadowrun is pretty huge on SA overall, there's a thread for it in the Games thread that's constantly posted in and kept near the top. I'd love if the video viewers, or at least the players would have a map displayed as there was a lot of back and forth "where am I?" banter which could have been avoided. Nothing fancy that needs a ton of work, but like the basic rectangle shaped outlines.

It seems like it wouldn't be too hard to just set something up in Roll 20. Even if they didn't delve I to the deeper functionalities, they could place icons on a map and project it from a laptop

I'm watching my first live video Harmontown and I already regret it. I don't know what it is, but this just works better as an audio experience than a video one, in my opinion.

This is a lot like when one of my eyelashes fell into my newly poured cereal and I just walked around my place telling my roommates how my cereal was ruined for 3 hours then threw the bowl and its contents wholesale into the street.

This is an accurate comparison of a laugh on a podcast to any easily removed eyelash from cereal. Thanks!

I knew using cereal in that analogy would really help in making it more relatable. Shadowrun was pretty good. It was funny and enjoyable even with the idea that they're going to play more "seriously" and/or pay more attention. DeMorge fit in naturally and made the game better as a whole, I thought. It was strange to hear Jeff mention that he read anything about the game in order to prepare. A positive result of this is that it seems he'll rely less on off-the-cuff sexual violence for laughs at least.

I expressed impatience over the delayed release of this week's episode and commented on Jeff's handsomeness. Neither is evidence of hate. Hate is saying DeMorge Brown is a boring one-trick pony who doesn't add anything of substance to the podcast (which I have yet to say because I'm still giving him a chance to change my mind).

You're weirdly obsessed with what other people think about the show. The show was posted late. That's a fact. And its reasonable to infer from that fact that the podcast was posted late in order to induce podcast listeners into buying a premium subscription, mainly because they've already done that twice in the last month. DeMorge Brown isn't funny. That's an opinion. You can either agree or disagree with it, but you cannot reasonably argue that it is wrong because an opinion is, by definition, subjective. Hope that helps.

Pretty sure that's the longest I've ever heard him rap without a description of loving someone's mom. Such a weird episode, post-roll Dan without D&D / Shadowrun to fall back on seemed like a recipe for disaster during the first half but that ending was my favorite bit on the show in a long time.
