muike posted:I think the ending, if we ever see it will be at the very least bittersweet, and not awful. I agree with this, simply because as a general rule the situation has become more hopeful as the story has gone on. Initially, Guts was alone, with no friends except Puck, and no hope. Now, he's got Schierke, Farnese, Serpico and Isidro along, and the whole thing is just generally more upbeat than it was. I don't think Miura is going to go from this all the way back to the bleakest pits. I don't expect a happy ending, but I think we'll see something with at least a glimmer of light.

Yeah, as depressing as Berserk can be, it's only really had one "oh poo poo things were good but now they're terrible!" moment (being the eclipse of course). After the eclipse things have pretty much continued on an upward trend; I don't think any of Guts' new companions he's met have even died (I guess the witch, but she didn't die in a very sad way). The worst actually plausible ending probably involves Guts dying after defeating Griffith or something, and even that would probably have a more or less upbeat tone to it.

I think Guts is going to have to let go of revenge and anger at some point or it's literally going to kill him and I don't think Miura's going to go that way. idk maybe there'll be some Griffith/Femto dichotomy split

I'm optimistic for Guts because he is back to where he was pre Eclipse. The issue is the other people with him.

People are fated to use the Behelits, right? With Guts being more or less outside fate after the Eclipse, Casca is too, so I think that's real unlikely.

I'm of the opinion no one is truly outside fate. Guts surviving is what led to Griffith getting a shiny new physical body, after all. Not to mention Skull Knight creating Griffith's kingdom for him. And those are the two prime examples of people that are supposedly outside of fate.

Guts uses the behelit to create a form strong enough to kill the godhand. He chooses Griffith as his sacrifice.

Gutts will use the behelit he has been carrying around, during the final one and one battle to kill Griffith and he will sacrifice his new friends and Caska to get the power to overcome Griffith and the God Hand. He will then sit alone as a replacement for God Hand and spend the rest of his days in pain and suffering. Mark my words.

Guts would have done that during his black swordsman days, sure. He was also half insane from sleep deprivation and solitude, problems since rectified. However, as Guts' body gets weaker, his mind gets stronger. He still can't handle the berserker armor on his own, but that might never have been possible to begin with. He truly values his companions, and a large part of his beef with Griffith was that he betrayed and sacrificed people they both cared about. Guts hates Griffith's actions more than he ever did the man himself. I wouldn't even say that Guts is motivated by revenge. Rather, he is driven to punish Griffith. The difference is that revenge is self-satisfaction, and Guts hasn't been all that concerned with himself for a long time. In other words, Guts utterly loathes sacrificing others. It is the core of who he is now.

Caska should sacrifice Guts to the Behelit to return Griffith to normal and revive the original Band of the Hawk

There is a reason I keep the ten or so volumes of Berserk I have in a bookshelf in my room instead of the house bookshelf. I showed the first of the movies to my roommate and he loved it and my main thought was, "how do I explain that I have a comic of an underage semi-nude moth girl getting cut nearly in half" and that was when I realized I may have grown up a little over the last decade.

I think there's a bit of a difference between that and the comic with a whole segment about trolls who rape women and then their troll babies explode out of the rape victim's chests

The guys from the youtube show Man at Arms decided to tackle the Golden Age sword. It looks pretty true to the manga and movies and also looks like it weighs a fair amount. It was neat to watch how they actually went about forging the thing. Still sad that its not the Dragonslayer but after watching what they had to do to make this one work I can only imagine how insane a build for Dragonslayer would be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Nwh8yWh5WU

That's super cool, though a lot of people in the comments are whining about it not being the actual dragonslayer sword, but it's pretty apparent why they didn't do that one. I wonder if they even considered it? They would probably have to get a solid block of iron and just chop and grind it down until it resembles a sword, they'd have to find a pretty strong material for the handle though to even be able to support the dang thing without snapping off or bending or something.

I feel like it's a step by step thing. They knew they couldn't do the Dragonslayer if they couldn't do the Golden Age sword so they worked out that one first without even considering the Dragonslayer. Now they might have to consider it.

They were saying the Golden Age one was around 50 pounds before grinding and the guy says he took about 10 pounds off after the grind. Swingin around a 40 pound sword is hard as gently caress to begin with and the Dragonslayer would probably double if not triple that weight. I honestly think that the Dragonslayer would be hundreds, plural, of pounds. And I agree with the above poster that it probably wouldn't really be forged, it'd just be a big piece of metal with bits cut and ground off to make the edges. I wouldn't even expect a handle that could actually support it; it'd probably be a decorative thing entirely. Also yes, YouTube commentors suck.
