I'm just not seeing it. On my Defiance character I've wiped out every faction except Freedom, yet the best gear I'm seeing on the 3 or 4 traders I can access is the VSS/Groza weapon-wise and the Sunrise armor-wise.

There's a wandering trader who is usually surrounded by guards who fills the role of Nimble in that he can order you in some top gear stuff. He wanders all around the Zone, but I found him in the Marshes more often than not.

e: Quick video of the LA addon

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6uR6EtASIw

Mainly testing out some of the wonky functions. The hud and the fact certain elements keep going under/over is annoying me so I'm going to fix that.

The 'deadly controller' feature is a quick toggle in the options file. Setting it will add the new controller effects (those freaky looking phantoms aswell as additional sfx), setting it to false will revert to default Lost Alpha controllers. Deadly controllers can also turn other stalkers into zombies so if you encounter a controller with a bunch of other stalkers you're likely to be facing a controller plus a load of zombies.

As a quick hack to stop the dynamic huds from going in cutscenes it will remove them if the camera gets a certain distance from the head bone, so in the third person you can sometimes see the hud if you move the camera close to the head. I guess this is a new engine quirk Lost Alpha introduces.

You can turn the overlays and the sound off if they annoy you/you sound too much like a sex pest.

With the flares picking up the special artefact you create can cause weird problems so I've set it so you drop it instantly and have a minor hurt effect to show it's 'too hot' to handle.

Yeah I know that guy has Exos, I've seen him around before. In terms of armor he offered me an Exo or Clear Sky Sunrise, but this was very early on in the game when I saw him at the Defiance base and didn't have the money for anything. Now I've got about 120k and can't find him. Dunno how many resource points we hold, have basically just been going after bases, the only ones I don't have now are the Army Warehouse Freedom base, and the Monolith base (if it's even capturable).

Can you not find any of the armored suits around anywhere, or does it basically jump straight from an upgraded Sunrise to Exo?

There's a tracksuit, the Kleibold koat, and then I think a faction specific berill for the bandits, then exo. If you need more resources try taking over freedom or wherever else you have available, you might just be 1 or 2 away from the next tier.

Do actual faction bases count as resources, or do you actually need to put a squad up into the little blue circle territories?

Impressions as I play this for the first time.

It's been a while since I've played the first two installments. Kinda obvious once I remember "oh yeah, there's a dedicated sprint button for traversing the endless wastes. Also, the radar shows me where to go, since I actually have to make my way to the primary quest location at the start.

Along the way I have a chat with a small group of stalkers, who are immediately attacked by a snork (had to go and look up the name). I give a medkit to the one that got wounded (after looting his rifle), and they are all attacked and killed by a bunch of dogs. Such is life in the zone.

(Hope they weren't important)

I was supposed to meet some bandits to ambush newbie stalkers (or rather, counter-ambush the bandits). Sadly, they just hung out on a ship, pointing their guns at a fire. I couldn't talk to them, and they eventually disappeared. Such is life in STALKER (even with mods)

Is there a mod that removes completed / failed quests from your map?

Some guy asked me for an artifact, then sprinted away. He was killed by dogs within minutes, and I looted the artifact from his corpse and handed it to the quest giver. Apparently this means I failed the quest line and can't get any "find a special artifact" requests.

I'm playing with Call of Pripyat Complete, btw. Any mods that actually fix these issues?

Edit - Apparently when you get to the OakPine during the Missing Stalkers quest, there's supposed to be a Bloodsucker corpse there? There, uh... isn't. The Stalker experience, alright.

Yeah, they do. I think the only one that's weird is the hangar in garbage, where it's only counted as a base. IMO you should shoot for bases/resources over controlling the zones to get in/out of places, since they'll give you a huge boost to the amount squads you're able to field, as well as their gear and combat effectiveness.

But you don't get money for putting squads into those zones, right? The only way to get money from capturing is to go for the areas marked with objectives it seems. Does just calling in reinforcements into those resource zones count as controlling them?

Yeeeeep. I'm at 212 strength now, the other two still existing factions are Mercenaries and Clear Sky, with 15 and 47 respectively. I assume 212 is enough to get top tier gear from your trader (not sure how you'd be expected to get much more, I only lack one major base which is the Clear Sky one) and I managed to get the Bandit Merc Suit and an AS Val, so that's nice.

Edit: I want the Bandit Skat/Berill or whatever it is but my trader doesn't have it yet. :(

Everything up until "everything else" doesn't seem like it should conflict with each other. One generic mod, and a bunch of improved sound / atmosphere / fov mods.

...

In other news, my inability to drop a marker in a generic location on the map (or even a central location, if I don't have a quest there) in... 2011 or so?... is hella annoying.

Ditto the lack of logical quest marker progression.

I run towards every fight to loot the bodies, get an fast-travel escort back to the main ship when I'm finally overburdened, get the mechanic drunk to fix my weapons, and sell them all. The only reason I don't have the best possible guns and armor fully modded is that they haven't dropped / been sold yet.

A bandit managed to snipe me from half a map away with a single burst. Once I reloaded and took him down (with the help of a kindly Loner patrol that proceeded to run off and get slaughtered by blind dogs), I ran to get his gun, all excited... only to find out it was an MP5. What.

As much as the quests messed up cues and map markers, it's only after the Bloodsucker lair is poisoned that the quest completely shits the bed and I can't find anyone next to Danila's body.

Standing right up against someone's back and right clicking the knife does nothing. The range is too short.

A lot of the total conversion mods include atmosphere/sound mods or their own versions of them anyway.

Edit: Actually hit top tier now, Berill, SV-98 or something, and RPK added to vendor, it was at 230 Faction Strength. Too bad by the time you hit that point, every other faction is basically dead. :(

As far as I know you just have to go meet him when the mission pops up, then do the followup quest where you return to Strelok's stash before progressing the main story too much further. I do those 2 quests as soon as they pop up and haven't had a problem.

https://yadi.sk/d/_C8gwnW788IRx (link is cool, basically the Russian version of dropbox)

The ARS english translation floating around should work fine for Sky Anomaly, since it's basically just ARS with new anomalies. Virtually nothing else is changed apart from starting gear etc.

Edit - Nevermind most of the stuff below. Anyone got already modified copies of "actor" and "system" in gamedata/config to increase the carry weapon to around 95 kilo? The one mod I found had 1500, which the game doesn't recognize (and it's a testament to the quality of the mod scene that no one actually bothered to point this out) and I can't mod them myself due to reasons.

Motherfucker.

So I managed to gently caress up my save completely just before the first trip to Pripyat (as I was about to talk to everyone to recruit them into the party). Anyone got a spare save file?

http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xander77

I tried to edit the carry weight, and because I / Notepad / Windows am/are a genius, that hosed up the games timeflow so that hours sped like minutes (That's what happens when you have Japanese script installed somewhere, even though you don't use it as a default for anything - notepad will occasionally read symbols as Japanese letters, save them as such, and whatever is reading them will get all confused). Verified my cache, tried to launch the save file - x16 engine error. Ok, verified the cache again, reinstalled Call of Pripyat Complete just in case - x16 engine error.

Welp.

The very final mission. Strelok walks into the HQ, and the camera pans around for a few minutes while no one speaks. Then the emission lasts for five minutes, and no one makes the call once it ends, leaving us all stuck in that room forever and ever. The least buggy STALKER game, running with a Complete mod.
