not disposing means that the previous frame(s) will stay and the new frame will be displayed on top of them. This allows you to make small changes without having to redraw the whole previous frame. Setting frames to dispose means that only the current frame is displayed.

think like if you had a flipbook made of those projector transparencies. you could make a maze on the bottom transparency (frame 1) and then animate a line going through the maze without having to redraw the maze every page

how do you make a frame "not dispose" or make a frame "dispose" in gimp? in the few gifs i've made i have been painstakingly copying the background and merging it with every frame :eng99:

right on, thanks. i get why thats a good thing but how is it different than setting replace on a frame

There are several ways.

1. When you export the image to gif, you can set all the frames to combine or replace in the "Frame disposal where unspecified" option.

2. For specific frames you can go to the layers toolbar and in the layer title you can put in parentheses "combine" or "replace" to explicitly set each layer.

e: look at my av in gimp and you will see the "(replace)" in each layer title. You will also see a frame display time "(150ms)" set as well.

These. WD-40's right, I dreamt it. I woke up, and the thought ringing in my head said "if you slice open an eye, it should have pomegranate seeds in it". Jackie Fabric made my vision reality after my own attempt was rather lackluster
