I suppose it depends on the dealer you are working with. The dealer I ordered my Focus from is great from a customer service standpoint. We discussed the car I wanted, agreed on a price, and I gave them a $500 down payment. Per our discussions they were free to look for a dealer-swap car, or order from Ford, whichever got me the exact car I wanted.

Once the car was arranged, they told me the exact day it would arrive, and scheduled an appointment to pick it up. I arrived, inspected/test drove the car, signed all the paperwork and drove it home in less than 30 minutes.

This is the second car that I've gotten through them this way (ordering an exact car), and the third that I've purchased from them (my first purchase was an F-150 from their stock). All of them have been exceptionally easy for me. They didn't even require a deposit on the other car I ordered, as it was just a commuter Fiesta, which they would have had no problem just selling if I had flaked out.

Wow, I wish we could buy a car here in Wisconsin that quick. The amount of bullshit paperwork is ridiculous here.

I would assume so. The dealer didn't have any information on options for the 16 yet. Didn't even know if the Pretorias were going to be available.

That seems to be the thing people say about these top-end hot hatches. "ITS MORE THAN 10K OVER THE NEXT LEVEL DOWN" and they always compare it to the base trim, rather than the highest end trim options. A Focus RS is going to be a super ST3, not base.

But you're comparing msrp. ST3's can be had all day for $26k out the door. Even at $34k your looking at $36.5k or so. That's a legitimate $10k difference.

STs have always been easy to score far under msrp, I doubt the RS will be the same.

That can be said of any car that has a normal production line up and a "special edition" though. Gotta pay to play.

A fully kitted out GTI is pushing 30k, but I guarantee if I walked in at the end of the month I could get out the door at nearly invoice.

I read that there is a good amount of turbo lag on the Golf R that is not present on the GTI. This makes sense with the bigger turbo to get the higher HP's.

I wonder if the RS moving to a larger engine is partially to keep the turbo lag down. And do we have 'official' HP numbers from the RS motor yet? I've only seen estimates.

Oh absolutely, I'm just stating that it's a $10k decision. A potential buyer needs to reconcile that and determine what makes sense for them.

Anyone with a 13 ST1 having squealing brake issues? Light brake usage and coming to a stop and my brakes squeal. I told the tech at the dealership about it and they said I still have plenty of life left on the brakes so it's ok. It's been about 5k more miles of daily driving and highway driving and still the same problem. It's not temperature because it'll still do it after an hour of driving it still does it.

Maybe they're just poo poo brake pads?

I read some quote from an Audi engineer somewhere that the RS3 was using the 2.5L 5 cylinder because they'd essentially hit a wall on the 2.0L where making more power was producing a lot more lag and making the power band kind of lovely. Increasing displacement and adding the cylinder let them use smaller turbos to mitigate the lag.

Given that they'd originally designed the turbo setup on the MKV GTI to make lots of power quickly and down low for the purposes of fun that makes sense.

Yes, I definitely have this. I was thinking light rust at first but it'll happen after I'm driving for an hour. I still have plenty of grab left on the brakes too. How long is the brake life on these pads? For an average driver.

MIne started squealing, so I preemptively grabbed new pads. Got the wheels off and discovered the front still had about 60% life and the rear, maybe 30 or 40. My squealing only started once the temperature really dropped, so I'm guessing it's related to that.

BajaHAHAHA.

Certain brake compounds will squeal when cold, it's normal, especially on light brake application. The more aggressive the compound, the more likely it is to squeal from what I've found. Friends Porsche boxer squeals like crazy when the brakes are cold with lots of life left on the pads.

Is it persistent once you warm up the brakes with a few hard brake applications?

Maybe the newer STI comes with a more aggressive pad?

Yeah, it will come down to that for me as well. The hatch is so functional.

But the Mustang is just amazing. V8, RWD, manual transmission, really nice interior on the Premium trim. I am seriously considering it. The performance pack has some fantastic wheels, summer tires, and a LSD.

About 15 years ago I was in love with the M5 which had a very similar power output to this mustang. When I started thinking about it I started to fall in love with all that power and that configuration for roughly half the cost of what an M5 from 15 years ago cost. Adjusting for inflation its an even better value. GT Mustang is crazy crazy car for the money.

ALL mustangs have an LSD. The GT PP only switches to a torsen LSD (and 3.73s) vs the standard clutch type LSD (3.31 or 3.55). The gear differences are only a little beyond making up for tire height differences.

They need a hatch version of the stang (with a different name), it'd sell.

edit: All Mustangs have LSD applies on S550 (2015+), dunno about previous gens.

Received the cobb access port v3 from a fellow forum member last week. Just running stage one on my focus st until I purchase a large intercooler but results so far are great. Throttle response is improved and feels more punchy from idle to around 2500rpm. Not sure if I would pay retail on it if I didn't plan on further tuning but it's a real nice system. Better than anything I had for my old saabs...not saying much but I am impressed.

Anyone have experience with the levels performance bolt on intercooler? Seems solid for the price, but am open to suggestions.

If you aren't going to track the car, you 100% don't need the performance package. Take the $2.5k, bank half, use the other half on a set of pilot super sports.

well the PP just has much wider wheels/tires. That seems like the best reason to get the PP. I understand that the Torsen LSD is mainly to keep pace with the tire size?

I'm feeling you though. It looks like you could probably get the GT Premium for like $34.5k if you're willing to wait for someone who will deal with you. I'm just amazed by how nice it was for that kind of money.

It is a popular model for the FiST, but I believe they are the next size up from stock so if you ever plan on upgrading your turbo you might look for something with more surface area. This is for a FiST though, so I suppose it could be different for the FoST. The brand is solid though

X-plan on a GT premium without any other options is 35.4k.
Thats full heated/cooled leather, a super nice interior, a damned good looking exterior, keyless, mycolor gauges, a decent infotainment system with 9 speakers, 430HP, 3.31 limited slip dif...
The only option I'm waffling on is the premier trim for soft touch door panels, better seating leather, and leather trimmed dash for like $350.

The base GT has 235/55ZR18 all-seasons, replacement PSSs in that size are $177.
The PP has chassis tuning (shocks/struts/front bracing), improved cooling, the torsen/3.73 rear dif, the monster front brakes, and the P-zerp 255/40ZR19 (PSS- $276) // 275/40ZR19 (PSS- $304) wheels/tires.

if you are going to track it a lot, its a no brainer; well worth the money. But if you aren't, the brakes are more expensive, the tires (19 vs 18) are super expensive and have lower treadwear ratings, and its $2.5k that can be better spent elsewhere.

Sounds very reasonable. Where can I find information to understand the differences in the differentials? I don't really know what torsen 3.73 vs 3.31 LSD standard means.

The numbers are the gear ratio. Higher number means more torque multiplication, but slower speeds at the same engine speed / transmission gear. Lower number means less effective power, but you can use a lower gear at higher speeds (and better mileage).
