Bad fashion season in Thanagar Also I thought that was supposed to be Aquaman, but the sort-of-A-design looks similar to Buddy's last costume.

Unless Raven literally glues or double sided tapes that thing to herself she is going to get a wedgie in the front as soon as she tries to do anything strenuous. It's not that it's a swimsuit cut, it's that the cut is so high on the hips and so narrow in the front. If it was a lower and broader cut it would still be comic book silly, but I wouldn't be wondering if she uses her demonic magic to keep her costume covering all her bits. Of course that particular picture was Ed Benes and he went for porniest versions possible for a long time.

I actually really like the nu52 Raven costume, just not as a costume for her. Tweak the torso a bit but the cowl looks super legit.

I really liked the Titans fill-in artist, Scott Hepburn a couple issues ago, so I went back to look if Raven was better under him, and there's her feather diaper...

Every time I see that Raven costume I think of Berserk. And while Berserk is cool and all, not really a good thing considering.

It's like, on one team you have Raven standing next to a guy named Robin, and it's not like he's pasted a bunch of feathers over his face and body or anything.

What is with the Literal Referred Animal Features approach. Batman never literally looked like a giant bat, unless he'd been injected with plot-serum. It was always abstracted and symbolic, and any attributed features were in the mind of the superstitious and cowardly observer. What does it say about designer perception of viewer intelligence that we're in the costume design equivalent of tell don't show?

Batman's costume isn't trying to say the same thing as Raven's costume though. Raven looks like that because she's about weird demon magic, which is why it's got a weird organic materials look to it. Batman's costume is man-made and designed with a scary bat motif because he's about applying science and technology to dressing like a creepy bat man and scaring criminals, which is why it looks like it is made out of regular fabrics and not out of bat leather or something. It doesn't say anything about how smart the designers think the readers are.

Eh. I really can't get into this new look. My favorite Raven costume was the simple elegance of the torn jean shorts and Nirvana t-shirt.

She looks like an idiot wearing a bad riff on Femto from Berserk, which himself looks like a bad riff on Michael Keaton's Batman costume (and very probably was given that Femto first appeared in 1991). While her old Perez-style looks don't suggest demon magic as much these days, I bet they sure as hell did back in the 80s when D&D and Heavy Metal were still considered to be genuinely Satanic and not just vaguely adolescent, and they still suggested an Occult/Goth vibe well into the 00s.

Yeah there's no 89 Batman in that black outfit with sculpted muscle and a cowl/cape designed shortly after Tim Burton's Batman became the biggest blockbuster in the world.

I'm not saying that it works, I'm just saying that's presumably the idea behind her costume using more organic looking materials instead of just some robes, or a spandex costume cut to look a little bit like a raven.

It's not a bad costume, but it looks like it'd be better on a melee fighter, especially with those huge claws. Raven's old cloak really came across as "mage" while this one looks more like "brawler." Honestly, if that was Hawk's costume, it'd be amazing.

Actually Femto's costume is completely original and it really is a terrible offense to Kentaro Miura that anyone would give the slightest credit to inferior Western influences
