Test drove a Tesla P85D today with a friend. Holy poo poo levels of throttle response, it's a beast from a stop. Also gotta love a car with this as a setting:

We have something pretty cool in the works for our review of the P85D and insane mode. But it requires waiting a bit until this infernal snow is gone and the roads are a bit warmer. Can't wait to try it out (particularly since I didn't get to do the P85 review in 2013).

Did somebody say mining machinery? This is the Nautilus Minerals Seafloor Production Bulk Cutter tool. It's like a regular old open-face pit cutter, except it operates literally a mile under water. I'm not super on board with the environmental issues surrounding the use of these things, but you have to admit the technology is as gently caress.

Linedance posted:Suburban Parents: this is how your minivan is driven when you give your teenager the keys. I can personally confirm this to be true. Though we only did on snow, the minivan we had access to didn't have the oomph to break traction on anything but ice. Plus it was front wheel drive.

iForge posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZxjk_fumOI All minivan antics are the best antics. There was some construction project that resulted in a concrete pad constantly covered in a thin layer of water, and the construction crew didn't cover up the access road when they left. One time we got a minivan to do 13 donuts- after cutting the gas. The only people who weren't totally happy with the 13 donuts were the ones hanging on to the outside.

I think it has less to do with cost than getting really good location sound without ambient noise is drat near impossible. You'd be surprised at how much of a professional production's sound is ADR and Foley.

I learned to That thing was simultaneously awesome and terrible car stuff. At least 3 kids learned to drive in it, it killed a couple deer and kept going, pulled our trailer, and was used like a pickup when needed. Except better because you could fit 4x8 sheets of plywood in it and close the liftgate. Also it went through a couple engines, 3 transmissions, and wasn't ever really a good car to drive.

I feel like that car is the perfect example of the basic problem with most people modifying cars - throwing money and parts at it doesn't make it good. Put some time into designing it, rather than just OH I HAVE TWO MOTECS OH NO I DON'T WORRY ABOUT WIRING.
