Oh hey, the embassy consoles are getting even more hosed. :toot:

"Borticus posted:

I said we'd look into this on Monday, and we have! How 'bout that...

So, after a little deliberation and comparative mathing, we've come to the conclusion that comparing a DOT proc to a passive +Damage buff is a pain in the ... well, it's not a fair or accurate comparison, as it involves a random element of chance. Even taken over an extremely large sample size, the end result feels skewed by that random element.

The fact that these Consoles behave differently depending upon the weapon you are firing is also potentially confusing for players ... "do I get more out of this if I use Plasma, or Not-Plasma?"

We've decided to address the various issues of these Consoles' design, by rebuilding the Consoles' effects at some point in the near future. The new design is intended to be fairly simple:

All Energy Weapons will gain a 2.5% chance to apply an instant amount of Plasma Damage, on hit. (amount of damage is TBD, but should be comparable to what you can currently achieve)

This new console effect will be built to benefit from +Damage abilities and consoles.

No more DOT, and no more differing benefits for different weapon types.

And now for a bit of bad news: We're not going to be able to make this rebuild and get it tested before the changes that are currently on Tribble will appear on Holodeck.

This means that what you're seeing right now, is what will go live with this build, probably later this week. I just wanted to let you all know that further changes will be coming. Changes that restore a state of equality between Plasma and Non-Plasma weapons, when using these Embassy Consoles.

Well... hard to say how this will shake out. The damage will still be kinda poo poo I suspect, but whether it's decent enough that boosting it with plasma consoles and using plasma weapons will be better than AP is harder to say. (It won't be.)

I think it would make an excellent topic to report back on in essay format, yes.

They should pay particular attention to the writing style, characterization, Trek-canon-ness of the plot and ponder the author's design decisions made with regards to the "flow and feel" of the map.

The recruits are getting a little restless with the foundry content. I had to discipline one of them by having him walk laps around the DS9 promenade, asking the Dear Leader for forgiveness in zone after each loop.

Also - recommend that more goons post in the "biggest cowardly race" thread in the forums, for no other reason that to see starswordc lose his mind.

So some base information I'm kinda wondering since my character needs tweaking:

Is there a good guide on DOffs that I can reference? Looks like I'm happy with "white ones" but I'm everyone seems to think "Throw them away if they're not blue / purple." Thinking a guide could help with that.

Also looking for a good weapons layout as Celoth is pointing me to "set items" and so far I'm mixing Kobali set with Borg Omega set on a Kobali T6 Anniversary Cruiser.

Mainly just looking for good suggestions on load outs and maximizing my DOff usage without putting in time for a 2nd job on this game.

White doffs are for throwing into the doff grinder fleet projects for fleet credits. Greens are okay as a stopgap measure, but the ones who get things done are blues and purples. Do the colonizing quest chains to get purple doffs, and once you have some duplicates (because the quest chains only give fixed, unique doffs, so multiples aren't useful except in certain circumstances) you can throw them into the grinder as well to get random blues to fill out your stable.

If you're actually in a position to reroll for the love of loving god just roll a tactical character. They can do half again as much damage as any other class and that gap is only going to increase as more and more ways to boost damage get added in.

Can someone fill me in on Fleet Starships?

I can't remember these from 2 years ago - what are they?

Until I heard about this, was considering getting the Presidio Tier 6 or the Aventine (I do have a u upgrade for it), Phantom Intel Escort? I had a MVAE which was fun, but don't want to buy that again as I had it last time. I would like a fairly flexible ship, and only want to get one set I can do a fair bit with.

Is the fleet Patrol Escort Refit one of these fleet ships?

The Delta Rising Pack looks okay, but I'm not convinced.

Too many options. If you were doing a "one off" investment into a set, or going to hit up $100-$150 or so, what would it be? I'm thinking going for the lifetime account, but no idea if the game will last long enough to make it worthwhile or whether I have the patience to sit there until the zen stipend adds up to something worthwhile.

A fleet ship is a version of a normal ship with an extra console and some extra hull, bought from the fleet store.

If you own the c-store version of a ship, you can buy it for 1 fleet module. Otherwise, you can buy it for 4 fleet modules.

A Delta Upgrade gives a standard Tier 5 ship the same number of consoles as a Tier 6, so a Fleet Tier 5 ship that's also been upgraded with a delta upgrade module has one more console than a current T6 ship (but the T6 ship has more boff abilities). Eventually, we expect T6 ships to get fleet versions too, at which point they'll be indisputably superior to upgraded fleet tier 5. At the moment, though...

Thanks for that - so I have nothing to worry about, just get what I want and churn it into a fleet version later, right?
And that also confirms for me that I should probably get a Tier 6 ship.

You can't upgrade a normal ship to a fleet ship. But if you buy the normal one on the C-store, it will give you a discount on the fleet version. Ultimately, just buying the fleet one outright is slightly cheaper, but often the C-store+fleet discount one will give you a console or something too, plus the ability to get the discount on multiple characters. And in the case of T6, the fleet ones won't come with the trait, either, you need the c-store one first for that, too.

Basically, I would say, if you're gonna buy a T5, buy the fleet one outright. If you're gonna get a T6 and turn it fleet when fleet versions eventually come out, yeah, you'll want the C-store one.

You mentioned the Presidio, Aventine or Phantom. Don't get the Presidio, it's a piece of poo poo. The Aventine and the Phantom are both pretty good. Aventine's one of a special c-store triplet, and the triplet ships don't have different versions, they come straight from the c-store at fleet level anyway. And Phantom's a T6, so it doesn't current have a fleet version but probably will in six months or so.

So yeah, just buy the Aventine or the Phantom from the C-store if you like those two. Ultimately an escort will be more pew pew. Although I think at the moment the best escort in the game for feds would be the Tempest Fleet Patrol Escort Refit. That'll change when T6 Fleet Phantom comes out.

Yes, it's all much too complicated.

It's settled down a bit since this morning, but there are few things I love more than seeing worffan chased out of a thread.

quote:

While we are on the subject of in-game races that we hate, I'd like to reiterate what I absolutely don't understand about Andorians.

I do know they live in a colder climate, such as an ice moon, but wouldn't living in a climate suitable for Humans be considered living inside an oven set to clean? If their bodies can adapt to such cold climates, how would it be possible for them to survive in hotter ones? They cannot be lizards; their bodies would freeze in the cold climates or they would overheat and die in the hotter climates. They should be on the same tier as Breen and wear pressure suits.

Let's look at another anomaly for Andorians: their antennae. I read up that it was meant for maintaining their balance and helps them stay upright or something. Here's where it falls apart- they have Humanoid ears as well. If their ears are Humanoids, like yours and mine, they would have a magical little organ called an Ear Drum. This ear drum helps humans hear, but also helps with pressure. If the Eustachian tubes within our throats, connected to our ears, becomes blocked in any way, we lose the balance of pressure and thusly our balance.

Now, for Andorians to maintain their balance, they would need these antennae to connect to the other side of the Ear Drum. The only possible way for this "tube" to connect to that area would have to require it go under the skin, over the forehead and down the side of the cheek. Another way would have it go down the side of the head and under the ear, behind the jaw. Either of these are implausible because that would limit the Jawbone movement or impede on the facial muscles most Humanoids have.

Not only is their anatomy scientifically impossible to be reproduced, on top of that, they are incredibly racist. How many times have you walked down the street and had someone call you a "pink skin" or call you out for the color of your skin? Doesn't make you feel good, does it? These are all the reasons why Andorians are terrible people and should never be allowed as allies in the Federation.

On a side note, I personally don't mind the blue skin.

tl;dr- gently caress andorians

Honestly I think it's pretty good. The command powers are poo poo but it's not like you have to them, the boff and console loadout are pretty all around good (especially if you don't have the 80m in conn officers you'd need to get away with one copy of APB), the trait is obviously broken as hell, and I guess it has a hangar bay as a bonus since why not. All you're really losing over comparable ships is the weapon power cruiser command, but it has the inspiration gimmick too, so eeeeh. And while the gimmick console it comes with is useless, those are always useless so that doesn't matter much.

I mean the Intel powers the Eclipse gets are infinitely superior to the command ones, but that has a way less useful trait and is similar enough otherwise. And the Astika or Sheshar are better sure, but they're expensive for a newbie while the Presidio is just a c-store buy.
