Raskolnikov38 posted:name_recognition.png It's a little more than that. You can tell these people watch their which is why Ben Carson does so well in both questions. Scott Walker's the current hot property, but readers of The Gamble from 2012 will know how this works: (1) Candidate gets media attention. (2) Candidate becomes suddenly popular in the polls. (3) Media begins to scrutinize candidate. (4) Candidate plunges in the polls. The question here is: can Walker's record withstand the scrutiny?

I started to raise my eyebrows at Ben Carson's numbers, but then I saw that 80% of people that gave him a favorable rating are self-identified Tea Party members. Looks like he's still hanging on the fringe until the media gets bored with Walker. And then I went to Carson's wikipedia page and had a good laugh: quote:In a 1996 Megadiversities interview, he said: "The entire concept of for profits for the insurance companies makes absolutely no sense. 'I deny that you need care and I will make more money.' This is totally ridiculous. The first thing we need to do is get rid of for-profit insurance companies. We have a lack of policies and we need to make the government responsible for catastrophic health care." In 1992 Carson wrote "The most natural question is, who will pay for catastrophic health care? The answer: The government-run catastrophic health care fund. Such a fund would be supported by a mandatory contribution of 10 to 15 percent of the profits of each health insurance company, including managed care operations quote:In October 11, 2013, Carson spoke at the conservative Values Voters Summit in Washington, D.C., where he called the Affordable Care Act (ACA) “the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery.” In his speech, Carson claimed that the entire push for the legislation originated with Vladimir Lenin and quoted Lenin as saying that “socialized medicine is the keystone to the establishment of a socialist state.” Lenin did not actually say this, although the purported quote appears on a number of conservative websites.

A good way to put the Walker polling situation in perspective is to consider how strong Rick Perry's poll numbers were when he jumped into the primary last go round. He was polling incredibly well and looked like he'd just step in and sweep Romney and everyone else aside. The he began to open his mouth.
