I like how he equates billing rate to pay rate. It's like he doesn't even realize that the worker himself makes only a fraction of that.

My job bills my hours out at $100-150/hour. Yet when I first started, I was paid $25/hour. So if an apprentice plumber or whatever has a billing rate of $65/hour...

A lot of tradesmen are self employed, so at one point they do have the whole check.

Then they have to pay overhead, expenses and so on. And they aren't billing eight hours a day every day.

So, I quit working and live off this, cashing it in as I need it. I don't like or trust banks and don't know much about finance. Can the IRS take some from me? I'm not tax delinquent, but have not filed anything since I quit work. When I cash out larger amounts will it be getting attention? I paid taxes on it when I bought it, do I have to be taxed cashing it out too? Whats my best long term options for life lasting 20-30 years? Thanks for any advice.

When I was in El Salvador, a friend pointed out a neighbor's house to me. He said the owner earns money illegally and is afraid to deposit all the cash, and so it's sitting in barrels in the guy's garage, about $5 million. Dude just hired people to sit on his stoop with shotguns, day and night.

And I thought I was crazy for still using a brick-and-mortar bank.

1) how can you make $5 million in a developing country and not figure out some way to launder it
2) if you did decide to keep it all in cash for some ridiculous reason, why would you keep it in the same place, at your own house
3) why the gently caress would you tell anybody, such as your neighbor, the specific amount of money in there

A hundred trillion Zimbabwe dollars wouldn't buy a one-way bus ticket. I have one of those bills, it cost me about five bucks, which is about three times what it was worth. If you can get any ownership share of an exotic animal for that, then that's the way to go. You know. In case you're asking "for a friend".

He's a multi-millionaire internet marketer who's created a cult following. Needless to say, one should take everything internet marketers say with a pinch of salt. Just because he's telling a story doesn't mean he's telling the whole story. Calling people "Car Clowns" polarizes people, incites emotional responses and rallies the troops.

The whole point is that we're talking about him; the people who love him talk about him, and the people who hate him talk about him. Think about your boy Rush Limbaugh.

It's because of fuckers like MMM that I feel a pang of guilt whenever I get into my pre-owned 2014 Kia Sorento, because for a moment I feel like I don't deserve to have such a big, nice new car. Well gently caress that. You know what? Driving a newer model car is a pleasurable, worry-free experience compared to driving my lovely mid-90's model beater. You gotta live your life, and in my opinion MMM sets the bar needlessly high for those who take his words as gospel.

Tech millionaires that don't understand art collecting are bad with money.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/22/business/peter-liks-recipe-for-success-sell-prints-print-money.html?_r=0

quote:

Nearly every Peter Lik photograph is printed in a “limited edition” of 995; the first print sells at about $4,000, with the price rising as the edition sells out.

quote:

Early on, Mr. Bernfield and his wife didn’t consider whether they were making a good investment — specifically whether the art would sell well on the secondary market, a realm dominated by auction houses. But as the Bernfields’ inventory grew, it was time for what Mr. Bernfield called a “gut check” about new acquisitions. “We had to ask, hey, is this worth it?” he said. The businessman in him wouldn’t mind what they call in the real estate world “comparables,” a sales history of similar properties. He just has never found any.

“If you find some comparables,” he said, “I’d be interested in seeing them.”

Arguably, the person best versed in Peter Lik comparables is David Hulme, a fine-art valuer based in Australia for a company called Auctionata. For years, he has been getting calls from Lik owners around the world, and he finds the calls depressing.

“People tell me all the time, ‘I’ve been in touch with the gallery, and they say my photograph is now selling for $150,000 a copy,’ ” he says. “So they want to know what they can sell theirs for.”

A tiny fraction of that sum is the answer. A subscription service called Artnet — which bills itself as the most comprehensive database of its kind — captures the resale value of Lik photographs by cataloging auction results, and the most anyone has ever paid for one his photographs is $15,860, for a copy of an image called “Ghost,” in 2008. (It’s a color version of “Phantom.”) After that, it’s a long slide down, to $3,000 for a copy of “Eternal Beauty (Antelope County, Arizona)” in 2014. Fifteen images have sold for between $1,000 and $2,500, and four have sold for between $400 and $1,000. Another handful failed to sell. And that’s it.

Reminds me of the baseball card craze.
