Anyone have any advice on how to find a tunnel after a dog patrol has flagged one? Like I find a lot of them in pathways that are outside of cell blocks but have no way to tell my guards to search that area.

Look at nearby cell blocks, figure out which ones would be likely to be digging that way.

Keep in mind that dogs almost always find real tunnels multiple times, if you only get a single flag from a dog, it's very unlikely there actually is a tunnel.

You can manually order a dog around to search an area for tunnels and attempt to trace the direction.

Yeah it seems like the only way to nab tunnels, even if you know exactly where they're coming from, is to search the whole cell block multiple times. I get why they've made it so finding tunnels is harder, but there's a hidden cooldown on searching stuff and it's really annoying to have to wait almost a minute (?) before you can make the guards attempt to search the same cell.

If you've narrowed down which specific cell it's in (just by where the flags are all going or because it couldn't logically be anywhere else), dismantling the toilet is guaranteed to reveal tunnels.

What a terrific, engrossing game this is.

I have issues with protective custody prisoners getting murdered on a regular basis too.

This usually happens in the Chapel which is the only shared room apart from the classroom, parole room and classroom.

I think they need to be completely isolated.

Looking forward to the next update. My system is old and runs out of puff at about 500 prisoners.

This month is a little light due to previously-mentioned work on a tablet port, but you can now control prisoner intake, tweaks to parole, the ability to cancel grants, and prisoners now actually have animations for using weight benches.

Daily prisoner grants are now the same across all security levels so you can't abuse making min-sec dudes max-sec anymore. It's balanced out by a lump sum payment when a prisoner enters your prison.

Also, wires for cameras and the like can be anchored to arbitrary spots on the screen to clean up the rat's nest of lines all over the place.

That new intake screen looks fiddly as gently caress, but I do like the idea of building a huge prison and then letting in a big group of prisoners all at once. Also the new prisoner bus might make scouting for snitches bit harder than it used to be, since you can't see them before they disembark.

Yep but now it is somehow to make money easier with the parole system, especially for large prisons. ANd if everyday you take a lot of max, it's quite a lot of cash(and problems as well)

This should prevent prisoners starving to death in solitary.

Finally I can lock my PCs in a huge cell with every amenity 24/7!

Does that mean only when the prison is set to lockdown/bangup, or does it include prisoners who just have lockup scheduled 24/7? Because if the latter that makes my supermax setup a lot more interesting.

In the video, they describe two ways to skill murder your prisoners: set the jail door to always locked will prevent guards from delivering food. The other way was to have solitary rooms with doors leading outside and putting guards with shotguns outside the door, then just open the door and the guards will shoot the prisoners when they try to escape.

That second one is quite dirty.

You can stop prisoners from trying to get into places like that by going into the Deployment screen and zoning them as Staff Only. Only your janitors will try to clean there.

I noticed in a recent session that a prisoner was hanging out in the road with nothing separating him from escape. Eventually reform programs end up paying for themselves though, albeit indirectly - the more different programs a prisoner completes and the longer they spend in them, the lower their likelihood of reoffending on release is, which in turn means more parolebux. Plus the savings on wages from supplementing paid labor with prison labor.

Does anyone know what exactly effects the environment need? I read that it only refers to whether the space is clean or dirty. But then in the wiki descriptions of one type of flooring it indicates it contributes to environment. Does flooring affect the prisoners, or is it just to satiate the player's need to decorate?

Ever since the last update, guards haven't been taking prisoners who broke the rules to the solitary confinement cells. They just cuff them and leave them there, there's no way to move the prisoner and they poo poo on themselves until they eventually starve to death. Is this a bug that others have noted or is there something wrong with my prison? I've set up the cells pretty much the same as I always have, is there something I could have done wrong that could have blocked the guards from moving anyone to solitary?

Reminded me of Dwarf Fortress a bit in that sense, although prisoners do not make artifacts sadly.

This post is older than time itself but fortresses are obviously Dwarfish penal colonies. why else would literally every single person be a violent, unstable alcoholic? The mountain homes send all the most deviant and useless citizens knowing that they're pretty much guaranteed to get killed. When a fortress manages to become a proper settlement and gets a noble that's just like when Australia became a real country.

I just had a bunch of prisoners in a classroom gang up on and attack a snitch ex-cop guy; he somehow survived, but there was blood everywhere and both him and a couple of his attackers were pretty badly injured. They had basically all had weapons, so I ordered a shakedown, and turned up hundreds of items of contraband (in a prison with only 50 min-sec inmates). I ended up with ~35 people lined up for solitary.

In particular, there was a guy who had turned into some sort of prison drug kingpin, the guy had almost 30 items of contraband in his cell and they were literally all some kind of drug or narcotic.

Also, my prisoners enrolled in reform programs keep making GBS threads all over the classrooms, the entire room is brown by the end of every class session. If I put toilets in the classroom will they use them?

I was under the impression that the new logistics mode made multiple canteens and kitchens a viable option, but no matter what, one of my kitchens never has any food. If I'm lucky, it's the small one and only 16 prisoners go hungry that day.

Fortunately no one's starved to death, thanks to guards bringing food to solitary inmates.

I think the distribution of ingredients depends on the fridges, if you place more fridges in a kitchen it'll get more ingredients delivered.
On the other hand I'm not sure if it's possible to make the distribution of cooks sane.

Sometimes you have to set which canteens the Kitchens serve manually. Especially check it if you make changes to the canteen.

Seriously. Their 'Bowels' need will fill all the way up, then a brown patch spreads around them on the ground and their bowels meter goes down slightly. I think I'm not giving them enough free time, they don't seem to bother to poo poo during lights-out and they can't poo poo during yard time or mealtimes; the rest of the regime is filled up with 'Work', so I guess if a prisoner is enrolled in reform programs with the current regime setup they just never get an opportunity to take a dump. I've got about 18 prisoners enrolled in a basic education class right now and every single one of them has poo poo in the classroom.
