It bothers me, quite a bit, how Beeler wastes his significant artistic abilities on so much ignorant Conservative swill and bland fogey "humor." Especially since he actually made good cartoons before the Washington Examiner apparently lobotomized him. tacodaemon posted:I just noticed that Mari is doing one of those sexy female model poses (the kind you learn if you're doing bikini modeling or nude stuff) where you lean forward a little and move your arms together in front of yourself to make your boobs stick out more, except she's doing it in the direction of HER TWIN SISTER So Muir's still tracing porn, eh? fool_of_sound posted:So why doesn't D&D like Ted Rall?? He decided that 1984 needed an update and wrote "2024," which managed to miss every single point the original work was trying to make. I slogged through that poo poo. That's why I personally don't like him. Also he's an envious bastard who can't get over the fact that Maus was a really good book and nothing he's written is anything like as good. Rather than being proud of a member of his profession, he seems to think that Art Spiegelman is in on some publishing conspiracy that is deliberately preventing him from winning any awards. But it's okay because all of those awards are stupid and he totally doesn't even care about them, which is why every year like clockwork he writes a long screed about how he doesn't give a gently caress about the Pulitzer prizes and didn't even bother entering. But at the same time he keeps putting together autobiographical stories that just cannot put him in a good light, because the stuff he chooses is 'that time I started sleeping with a lot of beautiful women for shelter rather than finding a job' or 'that time I got called a fag in high school and spent years of my life planning elaborate and potentally-lethal revenge against Brian.' Also his art is total poo poo but he defends it like a 13-year-old on Deviantart with the classic "BUT IT'S MY STYYYYYYYYLE" response. The difference being that Rall has been doing this for decades and his art has not improved. At all. Also his position on every issue is stupid contrarianism in the name of being extreme and radical. Nothing is ever good.

If anything it's worse. In the 90s it was weird but way easier on the eyes than his nightmare of poor perspective and garish color palettes. Having said that, I'd be skeptical of any award that gave Ramirez the prize. Twice.

The funny thing is that Spiegelman doesn't have a huge ego and realizes he'll mostly be remembered for Maus and little else. In fact, there's one morbid cartoon where he's enjoying success from Maus and it's him at his drawing board on top of a pile of corpses.
